The revolt is spreading. A dozen more Illinois counties just backed ballot measures to break away and form a new state, fed up with Chicago and Cook County dictating taxes, policy, and elections to the rest of us. That brings the total to 45 counties, plus several townships within Adams County, that have approved these measures since 2020.
This is what happens when one deep-blue metro runs an entire state like a colony. Downstate doesn't get a seat at the table, it gets a leash. Rural families, small towns, and working counties are tired of paying for Chicago's failures while their values get steamrolled every single cycle.
The path is hard, it takes the legislature and then Congress. But West Virginia proved it can be done.
