Any Amazon/ecom people located in Miami or in town for @eeemiami next week?
We're hosting a @MarketplacePuls dinner Wednesday night and have a few spots left. All brands, no agencies etc.
I analyzed the top 10,000 Amazon sellers and found some fascinating trends.
TL;DR—longevity still the strongest predictor of success, but new sellers continue breaking through.
If for nothing more than a non-tariff centric e-commerce read (few and far between this week) 😰

The entire traffic of the 22 non-U.S. Amazon marketplaces is only marginally higher than Amazon(.)com on its own.
It's one of the significant factors behind 69% of Amazon sellers choosing to stick with just one marketplace to sell in.

CBP has updated their error codes to include a new one for "country code ineligible for type 86 entries" -- de minimus, duty free entries for China and potentially other countries appears to be going away imminently.

Third-party Amazon sellers' share of units sold on Amazon just hit an all-time high of 62%.
Sellers now dominate the marketplace more than ever before, but this isn't their victory - it's Amazon's strategy.

Top Amazon sellers have long complained about an unlevel playing field battling against an "avalanche" of Chinese sellers
Now they are pushing for Trump & Co. to intervene

The Carbon 6 sale just completed.
Lots of talk about the deal structure and whether it would be in jeopardy after major Amazon reimbursement policy changes (Seller Investigators makes up a big portion of revenue). But they got it over the line.

1/ Last night, Flexport CEO @typesfast sat down with @BlakeBurman at @NewsNation to discuss the latest on U.S.-China trade—specifically, the new 10% tariff and the suspension of the de minimis exemption, both of which took effect yesterday. Watch Ryan break it down 👇

China-based e-commerce platforms built multi-billion dollar businesses by exploiting a customs loophole.
That loophole is now closed, and with it, the current era of ultra-cheap direct-from-China retail.
The past, present, and future of Section 321 de minimis changes… 1/n
Excited to share that I’ve joined @marketplacepuls!
It's one of the most respected platforms in the industry, sharing data-driven e-commerce intelligence.
And, as a long-time reader/citer, I'm equal parts honored and daunted! 😅
But, lots of exciting things in the works...

Read that last sentence 5x over before you start any new venture.
I’m sick of all the “I have the best business model and everyone else sucks” takes.
I've heard it all this week:
"Small e-commerce brands are the worst asset class."
"You can’t start a brand with $10k."
"Real estate is the only way to get rich."
WRONG.
All of it is noise.
Here’s the real truth: There’s no “best” business model.
What works for one person can bankrupt someone else.
The only thing that matters? Pick a game you can play for the long haul.
A game that energizes you - so you can keep playing long after the hype fades.
Why I’m so bullish on building brands that create products you wish existed to solve your own problems. Obsession becomes easy at that point.
wassup twitter… it’s been a minute. Didn’t intend to take such a break, but here we are. Hope everyone is well. 🫡
