the startups that thrive are the ones that sell a good product AND can sell a strong sentiment that align with their values.
a few of my friends run this company that focus on warm connects to matchmake for desired goals (ex. love, work, etc).
both co-founders are technical (ex-Uber, Jane Street, etc), BUT the hospitality they sell is unmatched. it never feels transactional, and they’re the type of people that make you feel included.
first major event at SF tech week. 300+ people in attendance. i still think about the event, the ambiance and keep in touch with people i met there.
their newsletter? feels vetted because it’s humans at the core. that’s a face you can expand your network with, and since it’s early-stage, it has intentionality and taste.

Let’s say you’re getting a $5 coffee. Do you tip 20% — a dollar? Sure, most people do. The barista is performing a service, and you tip for service.
Now suppose you’re getting a $5 pastry. There’s no service. Do you tip? Most don’t.
Now suppose you’re getting both a coffee and a pastry. $10 total, both service and not. Do you tip 20%, or the average at 10%?
people misunderstand the icarus story. the problem was not that he flew too high. it's that the wings were made of beeswax, which offered very little resistance to heating. with modern materials he would have had no problems. we can fly as close to the sun as we want now
