Very excited to share the podcast interview I did with @BhamlaLab and @aladybiologist about Max's Scavengers Reign, ecology, biotech, field work and how we think of odd planets, including ours. Production magic and crucial emotional support by @ctaylsaurus newscientist.com/podcasts/cu…

Maybe I'm naïve, but I believe that the best way to stop journalists from over-hyping a paper is to go on record and say "I think this paper is over-hyped" instead of writing vague, snippy emails about the dangers of hype and not engaging with the content of the work in question

Elmo each day the abyss we stare into grows a unique horror. one that was previously unfathomable in nature. our inevitable doom which once accelerated in years, or months, now accelerates in hours, even minutes.
however I did have a good grapefruit earlier, thank you for asking

Gmail search is amazing. You can search something like "flight sacramento receipt 2023" and it will somehow manage to serve up literally every email in your inbox that isn't the receipt for the flight you just took to Sacramento.

"What can communicators and storytellers do?" asks social psychologist and #frank2023 prize finalist @bennettcallag. "Use concrete data in storytelling. Speak about racial equality in the proper context." pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.21…
Recently had a chance to gather my thoughts on the incredible #frank2023 gathering hosted by @RealGoodCenter & @UFJSchool. I learned a lot abt communicating on social justice and shaping public narratives around issues like inequality and reparations...
But above all, I got to meet an amazing group of artists, comedians, academics, social-change-makers, and all-of-the-above. I also gave a short 5-minute talk followed by a 1-on-1 interview, which was outside of my comfort zone as an academic but extremely rewarding.
