“I remember you complaining about how long your name was when I first taught you how to write them. You would tell me why not just write 'Blanket’ rather than 'your complete name. You tried to charm me by pleading with your smile and cute eyes, and I almost gave in. God knows how hard I tried to be firm and still imposed to make you learn to write your complete name. You complained but still obeyed, and I can't forget how happy you were when you finally learned to write them all. You excitedly showed them to your dad. You were such a sweetheart.”

Katherine Jackson recalling Michael’s mischievous side as a child – Right On! magazine (1976) ❤️
“He'd play tricks on people all the time. When he was about eleven or twelve, he had a really high voice so he and other boys would get together and call his brothers at hotels pretending to be girls who wanted to meet them. He'd trick the brothers into going down to the lobby to meet the girls and they'd go down there and not see anybody. Then he'd laugh and say, ‘that was me, fool!’” 😂❤️

here’s how Dr Valin described it in his book, when Michael fell asleep in his presence: “We would put in a movie, order from the kitchen whatever we were hungry for and watch movies until late at night. If Michael fell asleep while we were watching a movie, I would turn the volume down slowly, unplug it (because if I used the controller it made a loud noise as it turned off) and quietly leave the room and go home. I remember I did this one night and was tiptoeing to the door when I heard Michael say, "See you tomorrow, Barney." For whatever reason, it was very difficult for Michael to sleep. So, if he fell asleep I was always careful to let him stay that way.
Sometimes he'd ask me to read something to him and I'd find a book and just read it out loud then slip away when it seemed he was asleep.”
Pointing insomnia out here bc there is scientific evidence linking lack of sleep due to intolerable pain.
Michael was safe enough to sleep in the competent environment of Dr. Van Valins house - note that it’s the doctor who’s assessing & determining he needs pain intervention
I’ll do a deeper dive into insomnia next; it’s all clinically connected right from his childhood - overwork, pushing through mental and physical pain

to me, Invincible as an album is also so special because Michael had become a father by then, and he would always have his children with him in the studio: “Buxer remembers Jackson often changing diapers and feeding the kids in between recording sessions. As they got older they would hang around the studio, doing homework or working on art projects. "He was the best dad on the planet.”
