Payne’s view is what they should really stick to if they want to give Galadriel her full right characterisation. She is not tempted by the ring because that’s just what happens when Sauron’s involved, she is because he’s mirroring her lust for power. He is power.

Nobody cares about the dull romance between Galadriel and Celeborn—stop trying to force it. Meanwhile, Númenor is sidelined, and poor Elrond is pushed to the margins so that this insufferable character, who is completely devoid of charisma, can take center stage.

the idea of a relationship in which my favorite character is flattened, stripped of all her complexities and flaws just to prop up a marriage meant to represent the prison she willingly puts herself in to avoid falling into darkness....so unappealing.

charlie vickers is such a fucking nuanced actor and he’s made sauron’s reactions to galadriel so distinctive you can recognize her presence through his performance without even seeing her
