Today we commemorate the martyrdom of Víctor Jara, who was brutally murdered by Pinochet's fascist thugs on September 16th, 1973. A communist musician who fought for and sung for the oppressed and everyone's right to live in peace - tortured and then executed for his contributions to the socialist movement in Chile. The stadium where he was killed now bears his name. Jara's revolutionary songs are still sung all over the world over half a century later. Music has always and will always be political.

At first, the Russian players were puzzled. Then, without hesitation, every single one of them started singing. Word for word. From the heart.
You were told the USSR was some alien regime that Russians hated. But when that anthem played, these modern Russian athletes didn’t protest or walk off. They sang, and they sang loudly.
Because the Soviet Union isn’t some separate entity that Russians want to forget. It’s part of Russian history. The Russian Empire became the USSR, which was later dissolved in 1991. The political system changed, the borders changed, but the historical continuity remained.

This is one of the saddest, most damning passages I've ever read in any book: 'Over and over again, US media would make clear that dead Israelis were the result of ontologically evil indifference to human life and religious extremism, whereas dead Palestinians were the result of, at worst, a traumatized people “overreacting” and, more often than not, reluctant military necessity. It didn’t matter that the civilian death toll quickly ballooned from 1:1 to 1:10 to 1:100.

I'm always astonished how people watch the liberal center in Europe adopt one dystopian policy after another and their non-ironical reaction is "god forbid the wrong team takes over and applies these policies."
They genuinely don't understand how absurd that position is.
Those same people would watch a law being passed to kill half the population and be like "it's fine but let's just make sure the wrong people don't get to decide which half."

Caroline Lucas states that "there are many different versions of Zionism" which is a classic Zionist propaganda line.
Let's be clear: Zionism describes the establishment in Palestine of a Jewish supremacist settler state where the indigenous Palestinians have to be a permanent minority with less rights. The displaced and subjugated indigenous population are then subjected to constant incarceration, torture, massacres (now genocide) - all so any Jewish person around the world can have a second country and "return" to a land they have no connection to (outside of millenarian religious logic).
It's not complicated. It's a disgrace that the Green Party have not pushed back against Zionist pressure group "Jewish Greens" slandering and smearing the anti-Zionist motion, which was authored by Palestinian Green members. Also a disgrace that Green Party allowed Zionists to sabotage the vote at Spring Conference, which would have passed easily.
My advice to Lucas and others: stop trying to hold back the tide. The anti-Zionism motion will pass when it is finally allowed to be voted on. This is the bare minimum for any party that claims to be anti-racist. The party is over. Zionism is racism.
My earlier tweet about this interview quoted Caroline Lucas as saying the Greens must find a less “toxic” way of criticising the Israeli government. I’ve deleted it to be more specific and accurate. She was talking about the ‘Zionism is racism’ motion, which she said “caused a lot of concern among people across the party, in the sense that there are many different versions of Zionism”, added that she hoped “if it does come back… we have a much less divisive motion” and went on to say that “it’s up to the party to decide what it’s going to discuss, but I just hope it’s done in a way that’s less toxic than it was before”:

Why did our ruling class not invest in decarbonising faster to avoid this acceleration in deadly heatwaves that scientists warned would come? Because of the capitalist law of value.
Capital invests in what is most profitable to capital, rather than what is most necessary for humanity, so our ruling class keeps ploughing investment into fossil fuels and SUVs, while we get far too little in renewables and public transit, even while the world burns around us.
We have more than enough capacity (labour, factories, technology) to address the climate crisis, but as long as capital controls investment and production we are prevented from doing it.
We are trapped by the capitalist law of value, living in a miserable shadow of the world we could have.
