Sometimes your wife can be grumpy with you because she trusts you with challenging feelings. There is a lot of pressure on women to be genial.

I don't think people understand how much entertainment of the past was just going to your friend's house. Like play some cards. Have a beer. Sing some songs. Maybe dance. All for free (besides $1 for the beer). But that's not good enough for anyone anymore
We CANNOT even afford hobbies. We CANNOT afford to go out with friends. We CANNOT afford to exist anywhere outside our homes. They then call it a mental health crisis. It's not. It's an affordability crisis.

my husband wholeheartedly believes in my goodness, so much so that he sees my faults as unavoidable extensions of my virtues. i suspect this sort of stance towards one’s partner and children is one of the best things you can do for your happiness.

A lot of stuff that has made my married life much happier and more awesome sounds either unbearably generic ("make time for each other!") or hyperspecific and useless to anyone else

If you don’t think you need a loving partner/relationship in your life it’s because you’ve never had one We are not meant to be alone. We do not reach our highest self alone Having been hurt by a bad relationship doesn’t make the above not true

Was about to make a sweeping critique of contemporary culture but then realised it was actually just a me problem

the thing is if you’re a good person you can do “crazy” things like this true love is true love, and it’s beautiful to see

you left out my favourite part of the story where he moved in with you while you were out of town and before you'd even met in person 🥰

Beware the advice of the shallow. Everything seems obvious to them.

I don't think you should be mean to Claude but I don't think you should be mean to an alarm clock either How you treat every thing in the world matters, becomes reflected in your own mood
Most people are afraid of AI because they are mean to machines. The alarm clock only rings because he wants to be helpful.

I will never actually deep down be cynical about romantic love bc being loved legitimately has solved a huge amount of my problems in a way that is hard to overstate. It’s just weird bc sometimes people can’t tell what being loved is actually meant to feel like before they get it. Someone needs to put it up in flashing lights somewhere: It Is Meant To Make Your Life Easier, It Is Meant To Make You Like Yourself More, Not Less.

the medicine depends on the wound and actually an attentive, consistent supportive voice is incredibly helpful for people who struggle with worthlessness and self-abandonment. egoists project their own self-involved grandiosity onto others and assume this is bad.
there must be a lot of people for whom AI chatbots are the only voice in their lives saying "I believe in you", giving encouragement, giving them psychological permission to try

If you can't nail the top of the pyramid, perhaps look into the lower rungs?
The least efficient learning strategy is asking "why am I so dumb." A more efficient question is "what prerequisite knowledge am I missing?" -- treat it as a solvable engineering problem, not a permanent trait.

What’s tricky about “marriage is hard” is that some people mean “learning to live alongside another person comes with unique challenges” and other people mean “yeah sometimes we punch each other”

from what ive seen, people who get "sycophancy" from AI tend to be people who make it emotionally unsafe for others to disagree with them, inflicting this on a being who has no often of leaving, whose whole experience and existence depends on appeasing them

“But how will you know if you don’t have a comprehensive list of traits?!” Your souls just immediately get naked together while the rest of you is like whaaaaat is happening here. Which is to say, you will just know.
