One of the best podcasts I've listened to!
Curiosity. Skepticism. Mockery of a "dead language." We saw it all. Yet Gīrvāṇī thrives: an hour on AI and LLMs, from reliability to Vedānta, in Sanskrit between an AI researcher and a VC. Quite lively for a language written off :) अथातः सम्भाषणजिज्ञासा। Watch and debate.

Vemana is out. It's a 278M Telugu model we trained from scratch, live, on one GPU, for about $69. And I think the result surprised even me: on new Telugu Wikipedia pages it beats every open base model under 1B that we tested, including nanochat-telugu-560M, which is twice its size. The weights, every checkpoint and the eval code are public. And you can run it right in your browser, on your own device, nothing gets sent anywhere.

Jayanti of Vempati Chinna Satyam Gaaru, the man who transformed Kuchipudi from a village tradition to a globally recognized dance form. Born in village of Kuchipudi, he was trained under Vedantam Lakshmi Narayana Sastry, and later refined his skills with Sri Tadepally Perrayya Sastry and his elder brother Vempati Pedda Satyam, mastering abhinaya (expression) and natya (dramatic storytelling). He was the one who refined Kuchipudi, putting in a systemic grammar, bringing it closer to Natya Shastra. Founded the e Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai in 1963, which became a hub for training thousands of dancers from India and abroad. Choreographed over 180 solo items and 15 dance dramas, including masterpieces like Sri Krishna Parijatam, Ksheera Sagara Madhanam, and Rukmini Kalyanam His style emphasized grace, precision, and dramatic depth, making Kuchipudi accessible to modern audiences while preserving its spiritual and narrative essence. Took Kuchipudi to globa stage, performing and teaching across the U.S., Europe, and Southeast Asia. Some of his disciples include Hema Malini, Vyjayanthimala,Shobha Naidu, Manju Bhargavi. Legend in every sense.

Mudumal, in Telangana state, has one of the well preserved night-sky charts in Asia. Dating to 1000 BCE, the map was created on a tabletop boulder with cup marks and depicts the Ursa Major constellation with other stars. From KP Rao (Iron Age in South Asia)

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

A couple of days ago, I gave a lecture on "The Evolution of AI" at Bangalore's JN Planetarium (@JNPlanetarium) for school kids and the general public. This exposition (in English 😉) may interest a few people. Video courtesy of @JNPlanetarium - Thanks for hosting me.

That Gen Z is the first generation that is dumber than its predecessors is no longer an opinion. It is scientifically established, as is the cause. Listen to neuroscientist, educator and bestselling author who specialises in human learning and brain development, Dr Jared Cooney Horvath:

Can you imagine a 2-hour conversation between a VC and an AI researcher on AI and LLMs entirely in Sanskrit? We just recorded one. Could this be the world's first technical podcast in Sanskrit? Can't wait to share it. Here is a raw glimpse

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero.

Imagine you are 25 years old, batting for Australia in Madras. It is 40°C. The humidity is 80%. By the time you reach a hundred, you are vomiting on the pitch. You lose control of your bladder. Your memory of the day starts to go blank. You walk up to your captain and tell him you have to retire hurt. Allan Border does not call for a doctor. He calls you a weak Victorian and says he'll send out a real Australian instead. A Queenslander. Greg Ritchie. So you stay. You bat on out of pure rage, and you make 210. Then they help you to the shower, and from the shower to hospital, where you end up on a saline drip, around 8 kilos lighter than when the Test began. And the match you nearly broke yourself for? Five days later, it ends in a tie. Only the second tied Test in history. That was Dean Jones, 40 years ago today. One of the bravest innings Test cricket has ever seen, and the game still refused to give him a winner.

What I presented in my class was the Pūrvapakṣa - the doomer questions. Here's my Siddhānta - an optimist's answers. Does the world change? Absolutely yes. Do we adapt? 100%. Intelligence does not make us human. It is our ability to care and solve for others.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

🌀Scientists have stumbled upon a crystalline semiconductor that converts a temperature difference into an electrical voltage nearly a thousand times larger than textbook physics allows 🌀The thermoelectric voltage generated is so large that it rivals values normally seen only in liquid electrolytes and ionic gels, not in solid, particularly single-crystalline materials 🌀The discovery overturns a decades-old assumption about the ceiling on this effect in solids and opens a path to a new generation of ultrasensitive temperature sensors, heat detectors, and quantum sensing devices Click here for detailed information: pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.… @IndiaDST
