Does “COVID normal” mean not enough staff in hospitals?

Yes please. No longer an emergency if you can test yourself in your own home and isolate. Leave EDs for the true emergencies.
Our emergency departments at Sunshine, Footscray, and Williamstown Hospitals are currently under extreme pressure. Please DO NOT attend the ED unless absolutely necessary. Those with mild COVID symptoms seeking PCR or rapid tests should NOT ATTEND. Thank you for your cooperation.

@TheRock I have a colleague who is an inspiration to the people she works with (she is an Emergency Doctor in the busiest ED in Victoria, Australia). In this COVID time, we were hoping you - an inspiration of hers - would have a moment to say Hi to her. It would MAKE her day.

She is the real deal and an amazing leader, working long hours and busting her chops when nobody else would. She draws her strength from @TheRock calendar hanging by her desk… I know she’d be thrilled to hear from you!

The ICU has been busy snapping away! 📸 The team recently ordered a Polaroid camera to take photos of themselves to stick to their gowns, so that their awake COVID patients can see their lovely faces underneath all that PPE. :) A bit of fun for all during a difficult time!

Opening up at 80% can mean: (A) having our freedoms back and returning to life as normal, or (B) living under constant threat of infection and thereafter fighting to stay alive in ICU (assuming there is a bed for you) Get your shot. Before it’s too late.
"There is a cohort of people that is going to suffer greatly in the coming months and it shouldn't happen. It doesn't need to happen." Watch the Head of our ED A/Prof Mark Putland's passionate message to the media on @TheTodayShow this morning.

Just a note to say that you don’t have to pinch both nostrils when you have a nose bleed. Just press 1. 😉

Don’t wait. Vaccinate. Any vaccine, but get it now.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 significantly reduces your chance of going to hospital. Of people with COVID-19 who are currently being treated in hospital, almost all of them are unvaccinated and none of them are fully vaccinated.

Quick survey: what do POCUS users think about scanning for low suspicion aortic dissection (suprasternal for flap, PLAX for root dilation, AR and effusion)? Can avoid CT or won’t tolerate the risk?

Case the other day: 66F with RUQ abdo pain + fever = cursory look revealed RLL shred sign and effusion. CXR later confirmed it.
Yep me too - and single shot lung bases if upper abdo pain, with a quick glance at IVC and subcostal heart in a very brief screen for grossly dysfunctional heart.

"social isolation is not an act of fear - it's an act of love." You show you care when you don’t put others in harm’s way by spreading the virus. Your freedom is less important than the life of another person. Let’s flatten this curve together. apple.news/A0CNB88l0RjOa-z8d…
Scanning COVID-19 everyday..but not all the B-lines confirm and not all the asymptomatic positives have no pneumonia. We need careful observation to give power to LUS. I heard from someone that LUS is too sensitive..this is simply stupid!

This is sensible since most abnormalities are basal, peripheral and bilateral
I am thinking that for our less sick patients that we have them sitting with back to us, and we scan primarily from the back, reaching around from back 2 front only if the back is normal or we need a heart view. This way both machine and sonographer stay out of cough trajectory.

It doesn’t get any simpler than this! Great stuff!
3/ Continue compressions & echo Oxygen away All else stand clear Charge defibrillator Hands off compressions Rhythm check/Record echo Echo off Deliver shock or Dump charge

It’s genius to add a few words to an existing protocol so a frantic Resus team can finally do something about the 4H,4Ts
