It was nice catching up with Michael to talk about the Catholic Land movement. We also get into some theology and clear the air of previous tension between us

There are only three contemporary(ish) authors who I feel compelled to read all of their fiction. They are Wendell Berry, Marilynn Robinson, and Charles Frazier

I was talking with Wendell Berry one day while he was sitting in the school lobby waiting to pick up one of his grandchildren after school. I noticed he was reading Marilynne Robinson's Gilead. I asked him what he thought. He said, "Ohhhh, it's okay."

I help Midwest landowners (like you) turn your empty pasture into a chestnut orchard that feeds your family - with enough to share. I can consult on your land, onsite or virtually, and listen to your real story behind your ask. Then I meet your needs and goals with Midwest Memory chestnut seedlings grown in our region. Seeds have a Memory. Go with the local/regional nursery and designer guy. Now is the time to plan, before you hunker down for Winter. GrowNutTrees.com/chestnut-or…

Trying to decide on the name of the tree nursery I'm planning to start next year, and I've narrowed it down to two. Which do you like more?

If this ends up about equal I'm going to have to end up calling it Tangled Roots in the Foggy Valley Tree Nursery

Randomly meet a fellow grasslands enthusiast at a climate conference and instantly tapped @pclarkallen to co-host an episode with me. It's a really great ecology episode for those of you who care about regeneration!

I hand dug this vernal pond a while back. There are two levels, on the upper level reeds & black willow are self propogating, on the lower level cattails are self propogating. A micro example of how if you create the bare conditions for habitat, nature will take care of the rest

This Spring I'll be growing chestnut trees from seeds with increasing percentages of American genetics, some around 33%, some around 50%, some around 85%, and perhaps even some at 100%. I'll be planting several on my land, but perhaps also be offering some for sale. Stay tuned

High water mark from the storm. Could have been worse, during Helene my whole field to the left became a river
