I'm following around a group of doctors back from Gaza as they meet with (typically indifferent) Senate offices. Sarah, a pediatrician:
>"Is this a patient you treated?"
>"Yes she was shot in the head."

As someone who loves Uppsala University (I was even selected as alumni of the year in 2016), I am so proud of its students for confronting former German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock for her undeniable complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
It is a disgrace that she was asked to deliver the Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture in the first place. Hammarskjöld must be rolling in his grave.
But it is a sign of how far Sweden - and its institutions - have veered off its old path of supporting international law, peace and multilateralism.
And as it has abandoned the very values that earned Sweden the soft power it still partially enjoys today, Sweden has become an increasingly irrelevant player on the international stage.
For instance, it's been almost two months since the Swedish elections, and the country still doesn't have a new government in place. Yet, no one on the international stage seems to have taken note, let alone cared about Sweden's political chaos.
Sweden used to be a moral superpower that punched way above its weight. Now, no one even notices it.
These students in Uppsala, however, give me hope for Sweden.
PS. Baerbock defended and legitimized Israeli attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza, and she ensured that Germany’s military support for Israel's genocide continued.

“I was released today after about four and a half months of detention.” Dr. Mazen al-Rantisi, a 71-year-old physician from Ramallah known across the West Bank as “the doctor of the poor,” speaks with a fresh wound on his face, inflicted half an hour before his release on October 25, 2026. He says a jailer dragged him to the release room handcuffed behind his back, shackled at the legs and blindfolded, then shoved and kicked him to the ground. Israeli occupation forces seized al-Rantisi from his home in the al-Tireh neighbourhood of Ramallah in June without announcing any reason, and his daughter says he lost around 25 kilograms in their prisons.
He describes Nafha prison as overrun with scabies, affecting nearly 80 percent of the Palestinian hostages held there, with almost no medicine given. When prisoners beg the passing nurse for treatment, he says, they are cursed at, mocked and ridiculed, and he was taunted for taking the chronic medication a court had ordered he receive. He calls on international human rights organisations to intervene, saying Palestinian hostages are beaten and punished at the whim of their jailers with no oversight or accountability.

A lot of people don’t want US-Israel wars, and the genocide in Palestine. There are workers strategically placed to seriously impede the carnage.
I went to Italy to talk to those workers about how they are organizing to strike and stop the war machine.
New article from me: “Livorno’s Dockworkers Are Learning How to Jam the War Machine”
“‘If a ship is delayed by one day, the delays pile up, and a logistics mechanism breaks,” Ceraolo said. “It’s a political signal, but also economic damage.’”

Genocide is wrong because it is wrong, not because it is expensive for Americans. The longer we allow these disgusting talking points which center US comfort rather than the lives of those enduring atrocities, the longer we will find support for these atrocities

Nothing bewilders and enrages these people more than the idea that someone might believe in something
Janice Turner in the Times, serves it cold to Sally Rooney.
"Rooney’s work brims with jaded ennui: achievement is empty, love problematic, sex just a serotonin blip before postcoital gloom. Beautiful World, Where Are You? whines the title of her third novel. I’ve met young Ukrainians under nightly Russian drone attack who find more laughter and joy in life than her privileged, Mogadoned nihilists.
The longing to feel something — anything — defines her characters and her own life. But now, at 35, Rooney has found meaning at last. The cause of Palestine is “to join in something greater than our selves, to participate in some small way in a struggle for human liberation”. Gaza is not about the suffering of a people but Rooney’s self-realisation."

If you are an acclaimed, voice-of-a-generation novelist there are infinite practical ways to deploy your fame and money to aid Gaza’s hungry, injured and displaced. But Rooney has chosen one that gives her the ultimate prize: pain-free public martyrdom.

I call on all elected officials who have professed to care about accountability for Hind Rajab's murder and for other crimes against the Palestinian people to support our filing, pressure the DOJ to initiate an investigation/prosecution, and to pass the Justice for Hind Rajab Act
🇺🇸🚨 The #HindRajabFoundation has filed an urgent request with the U.S. Department of Justice, demanding the immediate investigation, arrest, and prosecution of Sean Glass, currently present in the United States. Glass commanded the Israeli unit implicated in Hind Rajab's murder. HRF's investigation places the 52nd Battalion—including Glass and his Vampire Empire Company—near her vehicle during the killing. Today, Glass walks free in the U.S.

Mahgoub,or (Rauf Nazmi Mikha’il), was a physician,researcher,poet,short-story writer, and communist revolutionary. He joined Fatah in the 1960s and helped shape a Palestinian cultural revolution that nurtured generations across political affiliations,I am one of his many students.
My first encounter with Gaza’s dates was through The Red Dates, a children’s story written by Egyptian revolutionary and physician Dr. Mahgoub Omar and illustrated by Egyptian artist Bahgat Othman, published in 1975 by Dar al-Fata al-Arabi.
