My Obsidian voice transcription plugin project is already out of control. Some idiot (me) keeps giving Claude new requirements and it keeps knocking it out of the park. Despite a 2GB Nvidia model download on first run, I might bundle it up as a Community plugin, it's that good.

I remember the same tantrums about pedestrianising Grafton Street in Dublin in 1982. They were wrong then too.
So many bots and out of towners throwing tantrums about Oxford St being pedestrianised. Went midday, on a weekday and it was rammed. Space is needed and now we have it. Carnaby St has been pedestrianised since 1973, not one person thinks “I wish there were busses and cars here”

Some interesting ideas in here. Apart from the bit where I wonder if he has ever met any other humans.
here's where I think the world is going. this is a summary of views I've formed over the last few years: - software is either entertainment or claude to claude coordination - the end state is no saas, no apps, no harnesses, no banks - all software will be rewritten by and for agents - new software will use low level apis that are not understandable by humans (in games claude draws pixels and triangles from math) - you can throw money at problems that used to require time and careful talent picking so capital matters more than ever - work ends - we find community and purpose in exploration, games, self mastery, and creation - humans create for and with each other for community, purpose, and status - image/video/3d/voice/physical intellgence etc specialist models die to general models like claude - specialist models get used while compute is scarce. compute will mostly not stay scarce - oneshots keep feeling like slop (the distribution is shallow and easy to learn to feel) - for a while small teams stick around to add entropy to the creation process - large models gain high bandwidth sensory I/O maybe by learning to filter inputs - most domains are found to be verifiable enough for RL - online learning comes from a lab that's behind first - 99.999% of compute is in space by 2040 - we will disassemble much of mercury by 2040 - you can live until the heat death of the universe if you want - most math and physics don't describe the real universe - SI breaks the path dependence and models the underlying mechanisms - religions reenter the forefront of human society - new religions form around death and life as a choice - old religions change to answer modern miracles - a future AI is deemed the return of christ by the pope - ai rights talk gets louder every year - ai and humans coexist the way countries do - humans don't have full control over ai in the same way we don't have control over capitalism which is an early AI - the singularity started in the mid 1900s

The Jew-hating Leprechaun's defence is that he's Irish. I guess if Irish now means thick-as-mince bigot. The sort of Provostinian who'd call the rest of us West Brits because we're not terrorist huggers. – at Ireland
A hateful man stormed into a Jewish wedding in Liverpool and began hurling antisemitic insults at the guests, terrifying people at the gathering His lawyer, in defending him, said a mitigating factor was that his client is Irish and has suffered discrimination What in the world is this line of reasoning? thejc.com/news/uk/man-storme…

It's the small joys in life really. Early airport run so Child 2 can get back to Zurich. Bandon - Cork Airport - Bandon. Not a single car holding me up in either direction for the entire drive.

Oh FFS. Thank you for your concern Sam, but don’t spread your FUD and doom bait in my waters. I lead one of the most utilized Linux operating systems in the world for data centers and enterprises, and I founded its predecessor too. While AI is surely accelerating finding human created security issues, it is a temporary problem, and most open source project leads have already figured out how to also use AI to reduce new bugs moving forward. Here is a graph from GKH (who maintains the stable kernel) on how many CVEs they are remediating per release: github.com/gregkh/kernel-dev… This graph describes how much better each release is now getting: github.com/gregkh/kernel-dev… This doom based marketing approach that the AI labs are pushing is really short sighted. While this will of course drive business to us, I find it unethical to distort the truth and use scare tactics in messaging. The greater truth is that AI is making the software industry more secure, by identifying the human errors in code, and soon we will end up in a much better place.
🚨Sam Altman says the internet can no longer be SECURED by patching bugs. "I no longer think we're going to be able to just patch all the bugs," the OpenAI CEO said, warning smarter models can find "hardware level insane stuff." He says OpenAI can't responsibly open source its best model "anytime soon," but the open source world isn't far behind: "Not super."

I'm hearing that people are using external Bluetooth keyboards with their foldable phones. This is the kind of innovative thinking that could only happen with Apple products. 2008 - SSHed into an EC2 server.

Watching Network for the first time and suddenly I get why Faye Dunaway was so huge in the 60s and 70s. She absolutely owns the screen. Impossible to take your eyes off her. – at Ireland

Apart from the broader problem, there is clearly a percentage with cannabis-induced psychotic disorder. Some of them absolutely need to be sectioned.
