“Just under 20% were actually British.” That’s the moment Nadhim Zahawi exposed the “consultation” on indefinite leave to remain and Emily Thornberry’s reaction said everything. Thornberry insisted: “This was not an announcement, it was a consultation and hundreds of thousands of people answered that consultation.” Zahawi: “What was the percentage of people who answered the consultation that were actually British?” Her reaction is telling. She acts as if it’s an outrageous, bewildering thing to ask, then dramatically replies: “What? You mean people who live here? Or do you mean people who have British nationality?” Zahawi: “People who have British nationality? I think it was just under 20% if I’m not mistaken.” She clearly didn’t want to touch it. That figure shows the consultation was largely meaningless as a measure of British public opinion. Lucky for her, Peston immediately jumped in and moved on! Right at the most important part of the exchange. Plenty of people watching won’t know those details, and cutting it off there meant they never heard them. It looked like he was protecting her. Her response made the distinction plain. This government sees no real difference between British nationals and their interests, and simply “people who live here”. More evidence, if any was needed, that Labour does not prioritise British people.

Rejoiners…are you happy for your pension funds to be invested by the EU?
Ursula von der Leyen looked at €10 TRILLION of your savings and saw a problem 😂 Not her money. YOUR money. Your pension. Your rainy-day fund. The cash you saved for your kids. Brussels calls it "idle" and wants it "mobilised" into her projects. First they tell you to keep cash for a 72-hour emergency. Then they eye up your bank account. Next comes the digital euro. Nobody elected this woman. Keep your hands off our savings, you rotten bureaucrats

A combination of propaganda & wishful thinking manipulation has kept up the pretence in many circles of the political classes, that Brexit has supposedly been an economic disaster. Well this Reset will be a disaster when it costs Britain £73Bn. This time that guesstimate isn’t as dumb as the Remoaner predictions, that the idiot Andy Burnham has been a part of hearing!
Brussels Knows Its Economic Model Is Failing. Why Is Burnham Taking Britain Back Towards It? There is something extraordinary about Andy Burnham's determination to bring Britain closer to the European Union. As Brussels struggles to revive its economic competitiveness, our Prime Minister wants Britain to accept more of its rules. The EU's leading economists warn that Europe's economic model needs fundamental reform. Burnham appears determined to tie us more closely to it. Consider Mario Draghi, the former president of the European Central Bank. Commissioned to examine Europe's declining competitiveness, he delivered a devastating assessment in September 2024. Weak productivity, expensive energy, inadequate investment and a widening technological gap with America and China were threatening Europe's prosperity. His proposed remedy required €750 billion to €800 billion in additional investment every year. Two years later, the problems remain. A September 2026 assessment of Draghi's proposals found no broad turnaround in productivity and little evidence of the private investment Europe needs. The European Central Bank forecasts eurozone growth of just 0.9 per cent this year. Germany, once Europe's industrial powerhouse, has struggled with stagnation, high energy costs and declining manufacturing competitiveness. These are hardly the foundations of an economic miracle. Europe remains a major trading power, with considerable wealth, skilled workers and successful industries. Its economy may recover, as the ECB expects. But the structural weaknesses identified by Draghi cannot be dismissed as temporary difficulties. They have been building for years, and Brussels acknowledges them. Yet Burnham presents closer alignment with this system as the route to British prosperity. His proposed agrifood agreement would require Britain to follow relevant EU regulations as they evolve, including rules affecting businesses that never export to Europe. British ministers could be consulted, but Britain would have no vote when those rules were adopted. Consider the contradiction. Brussels is trying to simplify its regulatory framework because European businesses complain about excessive bureaucracy. Meanwhile, Britain is negotiating arrangements that could oblige our businesses to follow future EU rules without a meaningful say in their creation. The Government promises economic benefits from reducing trade barriers. Those benefits deserve consideration. But so do the costs of restricting our ability to regulate independently, encourage innovation and negotiate different trading arrangements with the wider world. Nor should anyone pretend EU membership guarantees economic success. Membership brings access to a vast single market, but also common obligations, financial contributions and constraints on national policy. Whether those benefits outweigh the costs is a serious economic and democratic question. It cannot be settled by declaring that rejoining would unquestionably make Britain richer. The irony is that Britain left the EU partly to regain the freedom to pursue a different economic course. Successive governments have often failed to use that freedom effectively. Poor domestic policy, excessive regulation and high energy costs remain serious British problems. But surrendering policy choices to Brussels would hardly solve them. Britain should cooperate with its European neighbours, remove needless trade barriers and pursue agreements that serve both sides. It should also retain the freedom to respond when European policies prove damaging or better alternatives emerge elsewhere. Draghi warned that Europe faced prolonged decline without fundamental reform. Brussels recognised the danger. So why is Burnham so determined to bind Britain more closely to an economic model the EU itself believes needs fixing?

It's becoming pretty obvious that The Makerfield Coup was not just about "changing leader". It's a long planned plot to get Britain back in EU, without mandate, and paying £40bn a year into it. If they have been working with foreigners for this, it is essentially treasonous.

Burnham’s been trying to become PM for decades. He’s finally stolen the job from Starmer and he doesn’t even know what to do. First year of his 10 Year Plan is to write the plan. Talk about indecisive and unprepared… telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

Thought for the day... 🤔 Imagine how Canada would respond if asked to fund development projects in Mississippi in return for the right to trade more energy with the US. But something similar is expected as part of the UK-EU 'reset'... 🤷‍♂️

British prisons are bursting at the seams, with taxpayers are picking up the bill, yet Labour is more interested in keeping Brussels happy than getting foreign criminals out of our country. It is an absolute betrayal of common sense. independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…

The UK is supposed to have lost 6-8% of GDP by leaving the EU, but given the UK runs an £88B deficit with the EU, where is that growth supposed to have come from? By us buying even more from them? Meanwhile, the UK enjoys a £70B trade surplus with non-EU countries, which we're willing to threaten by rejoining the EU. Surely this is where we should be concentrating our efforts.

Dynamic alignment requires the UK to automatically adopt EU SPS regulations, this EU-Reet effectively strips Britain of its regulatory autonomy. The very thing required to fulfil commitments to Pacific nations under CPTTP. This will end badly. wilj.org/2026/09/23/the-inco…

This is poetic. Henry Nowak’s murderer, Vickrum Digwa, appealed his sentence of 21 years. The outcome? It has been increased to 25 years. It’s still not long enough but knowing he’ll rot in jail for longer is much welcomed news.

Do the UK citizens want the EU dictating the minutiae of day to day life, such as hotels being allowed to provide small shampoo bottles, when we are no longer a member & have to pay them for such a privilege We all know the answer to that & it isn’t one Rejoiners would like
These kind of things matter. The EU has collapsed into regulatory decadence, adding so much friction to the daily life of Europeans. Returning to this would be a dreadful shame.
