The EUs two biggest net contributors to its budget are France and Germany.
France is on the verge of bankruptcy and will likely need a bail out by the ECB.
Germany is already challenging the existing costs of EU membership, not to mention the regulatory restrictions which are strangling economic growth.
All this and they haven't even started the repayments on the EUs one trillion Euro debt mountain, payments of which are due to commence next year.
Alongside this the EU plans to expand into Montenegro and Albania following the completion of negotiations next year. A costly exercise in its own right.
They will never admit it but the EU desperately needs the UK back as a major financial contributor simply to survive.
Only an idiot would think that rejoining the EU is a sound move for the UK.
@andyburnham is that idiot.

I wonder what could have possibly led me to that conclusion.

London is hosting “The Thinking Muslim Conference” this weekend.
One speaker said he would be willing to carry out a suicide bombing.
Another was described as a member of Al-Qaeda, and met the Taliban.
I have written to the Home Secretary about the obvious security concerns.

Yet another aspect of the 'reset' which doesn't make sense... 👇
I’m confused. Why would anyone wish to introduce discrimination between how we treat students from different, friendly international countries - an Austrian versus an Australian for example?
And when the government says it cannot afford to offer lower interest rates to British student loan holders, why would subsidising the UK study of EU Commissioners’ children be a priority?

The EU Reset is bad for British taxpayers, British youths, and British businesses. This report by economist Catherine McBride OBE, published by the Great British Business Council, sets out what the UK gives up under the EU Reset and what it will cost.

The EU hasn’t rinsed Burnham.
The EU and Burnham have rinsed the UK.
Replying to @AgrippaSPQR
Early calculations are that this bloke's so-called "EU Reset" will cost the UK £73bn in annual GDP. The EU has rinsed him.

What started as trade and cooperation turned into unelected commissioners rewriting national law, punishing governments that refuse to line up, and selling every new power grab as "European and democratic values".
The EU is not a union of free countries. It's a TOTALITARIAN system calling itself a democracy.

The EU is wetting itself today, knowing that we have a dedicated Europhile in No 10 willing to give them everything they demand. Starmer was the same, he gave 12 years worth of our fish away, without the France giving us a single bite of their cheese or glass of their wine in return. UTTER LUNACY

Permission will be revoked for 14 specific pesticides and fungicides that Britain approved for use during wet weather but which the EU had explicitly banned.

"UK to fund poorer EU countries in new Brexit deal"
The shakedown continues... 🙄
Why on earth should the right to trade energy with the EU be contingent on the UK providing development aid to poorer EU countries?
Would, say, Canada pay tribute to the US in this way?

Joining the EU's IEM would require the UK to get to 42.5% renewable energy consumption by 2030 under the EU's mandatory REDIII renewable target.

So, not a partnership.
