Flash flooding potential for parts of the southwest as this quasi-stationary area of torrential rain continues to back build and train over the same areas.
A station over Bodmin has recorded close to 50mm in the last hour ⚠️
Textbook example of the “Brown Willy effect” this afternoon. Torrential storm has been sitting over the area for well over an hour now, I’d imagine there’s some flooding & treacherous conditions on the A30 over Bodmin Moor. @Official_WXUK @Petagna

Patchy overnight totals, largest over the Tamar Valley between Cornwall and Devon with 40mm plus in places. Very patchy here in Cs England with just 0.4mm at Holdenhurst gauge, but much high totals in and around Weymouth with 26.8mm at Friar Waddon just to the NW of Weymouth.
Band of rain currently moving north across the Midlands, some heavier totals there and also in the far SE around Lewes in Sussex.

Many locations in Wales and western England beat their all time August temperature records yesterday.
Including Ross on Wye with 112 years of records.
Many more will be being beaten this afternoon.

With a temperature of 29.9°C @ midday, it's all but certain Cardinham on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall will hit 30°C today. This will be the fourth consecutive month with 30°C recorded following 30.6°C in May, 32.5°C in June & 30.7°C in July. Exceptional for this location. @cornwallskies

So the UK has now equalled 2018 in total 30C days. Only 1995 now has had more 30C days than 2026 in the UK! We’re just over halfway through the summer..
Prolonged dry and hot weather mixed with a keen easterly to north-easterly wind leads to a rapid spread of wildfires. This picture, taken by Christopher Furlong, showing Manchester coated in smoke, is unlike any picture I've ever seen from this country - extraordinary.
Temps are rivalling, and in some cases exceeding (e.g. Plymouth) the late June temps across Cornwall & Devon. Approaching all time highs for several of these stations for the 3rd time this year. Truly remarkable. @Official_WXUK
