So far, I’ve discussed three different specific Indian sociological syndromes on the Weekly Vine. The first is called the Higgins-Macaulay Complex: the belief that fluency in English, delivered with an impressive accent and arcane vocabulary, automatically makes one intellectually superior. The second is the Toaster Lover Syndrome, the phenomenon where people with absurd convictions find enough like-minded individuals online to convince (or connive) themselves that their lunacy is a righteous moral cause and and anyone who disagrees is a bigot. The third is the Rang De Basanti Syndrome, the romantic belief that protesting against the establishment confers moral superiority, regardless of whether one understands the cause for the protest or what comes next. And when you combine all three in a Venn Diagram, you get Captain Overage Activist create by the combined powers of all three. Revisit the first three here: 1. The Higgins-Macaulay Complex (Edition 108) timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… 2. The Rang De Basanti Syndrome (Edition 112) timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… 3. Today is about more than winning one match; it’s about finishing the series strongly. West Indies have earned their chance by competing hard and taking the game to India. The pressure will be high, and finding players who can change the game quickly is important. SKY’s 162.95 T20I strike rate is a reminder of the impact he has offered in past.

“Biggest upset in cricket history” in a one off T20 game, reduced to 5 overs because of rain - bigger than Bangladesh beating Australia in a test in Australia. Then you have the very same people moaning about the primacy of Test cricket, and about being objective 😂😂😂
With five off four needed for the biggest upset in cricket history, India have just bullied the umpires into overturning a wide call against Japan. Genuinely disgraceful

I think the world went to shit when we started referring to writers as content creators.

Most folks that cover cricket professionally actually know nothing about the rules of the game. They're just paid fans. Today's wide ball discussion on the India vs Japan game showcases how little these cricket "journalists" know. They couch their politics in word salads.

Cricket is not a serious game. We compress the already compressed format to a fourth of its size just to get a result in. Did they agree to play a best of 3 set men's final at Wimbledon only coz it was raining? A 5 over cricket match is a joke. Also as the wide that wasn't incident showed, half of cricket experts, writers, commentators don't even know the rules. I don't blame them. We can't ever settle on one set of rules. There is revision every year, then an overhaul every 5 years. Successful umpires in cricket should be allowed to practice law in criminal courts for the amount of data they have to remember and recall under pressure.

The precedent to use every competitive advantage at your disposal was set by cricket's first superstar.
"It's within the law for the umpire to reverse a decision" Ok, but is this the precedent we want to set in cricket, where pressurizing an umpire is normalized, in the absence of DRS, in a bid to get a decision reversed? This isn't street cricket for crying out loud.

So many today who are working in cricket yet a) are unaware of rules b) speak as if they consulted ICC and declared it a disgrace c) feel Indian players rounded umpires to bully them Just see the game beyond the lens of a side you don't like. Don't become what you hate!

Will the likes of @DeafMango , @rawatrahul9 @Ben_Wisden now apologise becz these lot had absolute no idea about the rules of MCC..You lot get a paycheck to speak and write about the game.Did it not come to your mind to atleast check the rules once? Atleast be honest with your job
The reversal of a wide in the final over of a closely-contested T20I between Japan and India caused a lot of debate, but the right decision was made in the end Read the full explainer to understand what happened in the last over: srkl.in/6019BCTYc9

This reminds me of how a certain opener turmed into a celeb for hitting two sixes off Bumrah. Probably a direct outcome of reels/tiktok culture where fans are mainly consuming viral edits of a player's individual exploits.
🔴 Waseem Akram Criticized Razaullah on the Celebration at Airport 🥵 He said, 🗣️ "England white-washed you by 3-0. You should go to your country by hiding your face. If you want to celebrate your own performance, you can do it at your home".

Tendulkar, Kanitkar, Agarkar in one frame. Three tremendous outfielders. We often rate outfielders based on their ability to do acrobatic dives but the way these three covered ground in outfield and maintained balance while completing catches was second to none. Kanitkar's catch in the outfield to dismiss Inzamam in Australia was probably one of the coldest outfield catches ever.
How many of you remember Hitesh Modi??? A solid gritty Kenyan batsman. In no relation to PM Modi or Lalit Modi ofcourse. That catch to end Modi's innings by Kanitkar is a special one.

Reason why I was lamenting the lack of (proper) home grown commentators and podcasters on Pakistan cricket. Bazid is a commentator on ICC panel. Here he is propping up pointless India based conspiracy when England in Bazball era has been playing on flatbeds at home for two years. Where is his professional integrity as a "cricket" expert?
Former Pakistan cricketer Bazid Khan has opened a new can of worms by claiming that countries like England prepare pitches in a different way when India come visiting just so that the Test can last five days.

Insult by association is the worst kind of insult. You see something you detest, but then someone puts you in the same set through some association. This is the exact reason why I don't enjoy India vs Pakistan games anymore. Especially the celebratory gloating over the results. Coz anything that puts us in the same sentence as them makes me uncomfortable. It may be factual or based on conspiracy. If you comolememt my home while comparing it to a traim wreck, I won't feel happy about it. In cricket, the only benchmark for us is results against SENA. Celebrating anything else is demotion by association.
Pathetic behaviour. But do remember, several Indians make comments like this about their own players. Reflects badly on this nation too. Bigotry and cheap behaviour sadly unites these arch rivals.

The combined wisdom of English cricket TV studios and podcasts are busy wondering about the next generation of Pakistani cricket talent. They should also be wondering where the next generation of English speaking Pakistani cricket broadcasters are. With all due respect to Osman, Ahmer, Rameez et al, we need to hear new voices too that are from Pakistan and based in Pakistan.

Damien Martyn was simply incapable of looking ugly at the crease. He may be out of form, he may get out first ball, he may attempt a slog, he would continue to be eye candy irrespective.
Which batsman has been the most aesthetically pleasing to watch of all time?
