Parliamentary committees exist to hold governments accountable, not protect them from uncomfortable questions.
This is one of the consequences of MPs crossing the floor. Voters elected them under one party’s banner, only to watch them help Carney’s Liberals consolidate power and control parliamentary committees.
I consider that a betrayal of the voters’ trust. Anyone changing parties should face a by-election.
Now we have Liberals shutting down debate over whether Diana Fox Carney, the Prime Minister’s wife, should appear before the Fisheries and Oceans Committee to answer questions about her appointment as Canada’s Oceans Envoy.
Her position may be unpaid, but that doesn’t put her appointment beyond parliamentary scrutiny. Canadians deserve answers about the selection process, her mandate, potential conflicts of interest and the public money involved in ocean protection initiatives.
Being married to the Prime Minister should invite greater transparency, not special protection from legitimate questions.
Democracy requires more than winning elections. It requires transparency, accountability and meaningful opposition.
When a government uses its parliamentary majority to shield itself and those close to power from scrutiny, something is seriously wrong.
Government should never be allowed to mark its own homework. And floor-crossing MPs who help make that possible should answer to the voters who elected them.
Accountability is not optional, and neither is parliamentary scrutiny.

So instead of building projects rapidly, Mark Carney is admitting he is adding more layers of red tape, companies must jump through.
This is exactly how projects cost billions of dollars, before anything is even done, beyond consultations.
This is exactly why the taxpayer is forced to pay for projects that run way, way over budget.
The Prime Minister has the authority to build major projects, but refuses to assert that authority. All while stringing the people of Alberta along, with promises of real rapid economic growth via an MOU.
The only thing that MOU has accomplished so far, is to solidify the green agenda taxation and fee structures.
Again, Carney is gifting First Nations power over our economy, while asking nothing in return.

In a couple days the Canada-EU Summit will be held in Montreal to move Canada towards an Associate Member...but there are some interesting things happening.
Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was banned from speaking at the Summit.
France, Germany and other key EU countries are pushing back against Canada's joining the EU as Associate Member. These are our biggest allies.
Mark Carney promotes it as:
> Give young Canadians opportunities to study, work and travel.
> More opportunities for Canadian businesses.
> Canadian researchers will have more depth of opportunities.
And somehow being tied to the EU will make Canada " a more independent, more sovereign nation". How?!
