JUST IN: BINANCE FOUNDER CZ JUST SAID BANKS ARE EVEN LESS SAFE FROM HACKERS THAN #BITCOIN AND CRYPTO
"IF A CRYPTO EXCHANGE CAN BE HACKED, BANKS ARE IN A WORSE POSITION"

Binance published the postmortem on its $6.34 billion hack.
It started in June.
An engineer searched for an AI coding tool.
Downloaded a tampered Homebrew installer.
Binance caught it. Replaced the laptop. Rotated the credentials.
But the attackers had already learned who worked on the wallet team.
September.
A second engineer gets approached on a real job platform.
By someone posing as a project director.
Live video interview with "HR".
Then a take-home assignment.
Downloaded onto a work laptop.
The assignment swapped pyenv for a malicious copy.
Binance's security tools didn't flag it.
October 20.
The attacker used that machine and Binance's own internal AI tool to reach two more wallet engineers.
One had a container deployment token sitting on his laptop.
October 29.
Container deployed. Signing service reached.
Funds started leaving at 20:05 UTC.
Binance suspended withdrawals.
The money kept leaving.
The attacker had already authorized his own contract on the hot wallet, on-chain.
Halting withdrawals didn't touch it.
Revoking it was harder.
The wallet uses MPC.
No single private key exists to sign the revoke.
So Binance had to design a revoke procedure while the funds were still moving.
The last stolen ETH left almost four hours after the first transfer.
The security model designed so no one person could steal the keys.
Also meant no one person could stop it.
Binance says it recovered about 2.85 billion.
And put aside enough to cover the rest.
The FBI says North Korea did it.
Five months of recruiting, interviewing and waiting.
The most expensive take-home assignment ever submitted.
Binance just published how $6.34 billion walked out the door.
June: an engineer searches for a popular AI coding tool, clicks a search result, and installs a tampered homebrew. Binance catches it, replaces the laptop, rotates the credentials. the attackers now know who works on the wallet team.
September: another engineer gets a job offer on a real job-hunting site. first-round interview with “HR” over live video. “HR” shares their social media, personal photos and videos included, so he trusts them. second round is with the “CEO” of a company that doesn’t exist. at the end of the call he’s asked to download a take-home “assignment” onto his work laptop.
the assignment quietly swaps out pyenv for a malicious copy. No antivirus flags it.
october 20: the attacker uses binance’s own internal AI tool to get into two more engineers’ machines. One of them has a container deployment token sitting on his laptop.
october 29: container deployed. Signing service reached. $6.34 billion moved.
Binance shut off withdrawals. the money kept moving anyway, because the attacker had already given their own smart contract permission over a hot wallet, on-chain. binance’s off switch didn’t reach that far.
then they tried to revoke the permission. the wallet uses MPC, so there’s no single private key to sign the revoke with. they had to build a revoke procedure on the spot while funds were still leaving.
last stolen ETH went through at 23:56 UTC. almost four hours after the first transfer.
Phew!

The AI bubble might finally be popping, more than 50% of S&P 500 companies have dropped 20% or more from their highs
And we’re not talking about random small companies here. We’re talking about Nvidia, Amazon, Google, Intel, Meta and Netflix.
Investors are starting to question the insane amount of money being thrown at AI, the huge infrastructure costs and whether all this spending will actually pay off.
AI can absolutely change the world. But that doesn’t mean every company throwing billions at it is going to make money.

Tokenization is the biggest bull market in crypto.
The total circulating supply of onchain tokenized equities just hit another record high, at $3.8 billion.
This metric has now reached a new record high for 10 consecutive weeks, up +590% year-to-date.
It has become increasingly clear that financial markets are moving toward tokenizing everything.
Investors are demanding 24/7 markets, and tokenized assets are increasingly fulfilling that demand.
Amid the shift, Jupiter, the largest onchain platform on Solana, reported that 70% of tokenized asset trading now occurs outside traditional market hours.
Amid this surge in demand, the NYSE is developing infrastructure for tokenized equities and perpetual futures.
The future of financial markets is onchain.

Text messages with a machine, in and of themselves, are not criminal, immoral, or dangerous, for there is no victim, whatever the content. It is the very same thing as with thoughts—regardless of the content, no thought can be said to create a victim.
• If someone steals info and feeds it into an LLM, it was the theft itself which created the victim, not the subsequent text message.
• If someone uses the output of an LLM to hack a system, it is that subsequent hack which creates the victim, not the text message preceding it.
• If someone threatens harm to themselves or others through messages into a machine, here still the messages themselves cannot be said to have created any victim.
Imagining otherwise inappropriately reorients blame from its rightful place: the action of harm actually done by a perpetrator. Thinking harm =/= harm.
As humans integrate AI as an extension of their mind, policing at the message layer means to increasingly police thought itself.
Which company, which committee, do you trust to police your thoughts? Or do you simply want the thoughts of others policed, and not your own?
We’ve trained Claude to flag potential misuse in conversations, a technique we call self-assessment. Right after it responds, Claude gives a preliminary safety assessment of the conversation.
Since we began using self-assessment in June, it has surfaced misuse that our other safeguards weren’t designed to catch.
Because Claude has already read the conversation, self-assessment is very efficient. And unlike classifiers, which target a discrete set of harms, it draws on Claude’s own judgment, so it gets more accurate as our models improve.

Fucking legend.
Buon compleanno, Bitcoin.

The mission is critical: Anthropic and OpenAI cannot be allowed to gain regulatory capture over the AI industry.
@AskVenice is the answer — and you can get direct exposure to their revenue.
• Yearly revenue: $10M → $150M in 6 months
• New token emissions: 14M → 2M (inflation cut almost 90%)
The team has publicly stated that they want to burn every token with the revenues
$VVV went from 94 cents to $21 before this revenue growth and inflation slash.
The market has not caught up yet.
I wasn’t pushing $VVV to my @solanamobile & @solana family before because it was a @base & @NEARProtocol project — no easy access on Solana.
That has changed.
Now that you have access, I’m telling you: this is it. 💚 🗝️ 🐒
I would never put my reputation that I have worked extremely hard for out there if I didn't believe this with all my heart
Apparently there's a lot of people that believe in this w/ all their heart

This dude is the OG in crypto with an impeccable reputation
You literally cannot find one bad thing on this dude if you try and this man's been building in crypto since what 2010-2011 when Satoshi Dice came out
Then he stood toe to toe with the regulators over the right for @ShapeShift to exist
He's spoken at several Bitcoin conferences as the keynote speaker
I'm not used to people not knowing what this is because I've been on @base w these guys
My @solana and @ethereum friends were separate
It's all coming together though now
Do yourself a favor and do your own research or you will kick yourself for the rest of your life if you miss this
I've been watching people cry all year about missing $VVV 💚 🗝️ 🐒
Correct.
Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be.
Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them.
Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week.
Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact.
Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia.
SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR.
That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell.
End of story.
