On September 3, I’ll be teaching an agentic AI workshop as part of @d_mykhailyshyna's Workshops for Ukraine series! A €20 donation gives you access to the workshop while supporting an important initiative. Hope to see many of you there! #econtwitter #economics #academicecon

Based on everything you know about me, roast and don’t hold back. Say it in argentine slang Just like this, but add way more argentine swear words

Undergraduate econ programs will do this and then when you get to the PhD they expect you to have had an entire undergraduate degree in mathematics they forgot to mention
Taking a break from my quantum mechanics homework so I ask my girlfriend what she's working on and she says "A problem set for econ. We have to graph the equation P = 36 - 3x" and ngl I actually lost it.

AGI is imminent. Time has never been more valuable. Some of the smartest people you know are spending their days studying triangles for the GRE.

The importance of this paper cannot be overstated. The authors compared AI reviews with 134 reports written by carefully selected, paid human experts. The results are impressive. Not only AI received higher ratings across all seven dimensions assessed by an AI judge. But even three former journal editors preferred AI reviews in 90% of the cases. The potential benefits of AI reviews for scientific advance are getting enormous: faster and higher quality feedback, less reviewing work, more time for research. We could even imagine journals run entirely by AI editors and reviewers. This could radically disrupt a publishing system that costs researchers considerable time and money. Let me say: some disruption would be welcome. But there are also major concerns. What happens when a few AI systems become gatekeepers across sciences? They might increase average review while narrowing the range of ideas that survive. This is particularly critical at the scientific frontier, where an important contribution may challenge the assumptions that existing research takes for granted. And even worse: let’s not forget that, near the frontier, AI systems become more likely to hallucinate. So they might embed errors at the very core of human knowledge. A tsunami is coming. And we’re not ready. * Paper in the first reply

Ecuador more & more resembles Venezuela or Nicaragua. If the state has any solid evidence linking its detained political opponents to organized crime, it should produce it fast. Otherwise this is clearly just political persecution in service of building a political hegemony.

Aidan Toner-Rodgers (infamous for being kicked out of the MIT economics PhD program for a fraudulent AI paper (which was R&R QJE & then pulled)) now has another paper retracted, this time from the Journal of Development Economics. Retraction notice here: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
