Tesla predicts it will end up doing the majority of all passenger miles on Earth, in any country that lets it operate freely.
On the Q3 call: "Unless we're stopped by governments, which is certainly a possibility, like if they're trying to protect a domestic industry, I think Tesla will end up doing a majority of all passenger miles on Earth in any country where it is allowed to operate freely. And you can come back and look at this prediction, but I feel confident about this prediction."
Beauty!
Tesla just published its first Robotaxi safety report.
3.1M miles with no one in the driver's seat (Jan 22 to Oct 18, 2026), across Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.
0 people injured.
0 airbag deployments.
0 pedestrians or cyclists hit.
Over the same miles, human drivers would have had about 9.1, 4.1 and 0.52.

I remain an advocate of EA in its original formulation: I donate 10% of my income to effective charities (saving lives in the developing world); am on the Board of Advisors of Harvard undergrad EA; and teach a course ("Rationality") with a section on EA. But I was stunned as Will MacAskill gave a guest lecture in the course announcing the transition of EA from saving the lives of actual people today to safeguarding hypothetical consciousnesses in an intergalactic cloud in the distant future, and I quickly jumped off that train. Still favor generous and effective philanthropy.
So cool! Looking forward to experiencing FSD this winter.
Our severe weather testing and validation teams worked hard, often far from home.
We monitored real-time weather radar and positioned our fleet in the biggest storms we could find, 24/7, to test our vehicle can operate safely in various conditions.
Thank you to the severe weather and validation team for your hard work.
Conciousness is one of my deepest curiosities, and I've long found it strange that people in general aren't more deeply perplexed by it. It's interesting to hear that the folks at Anthropic are taking seriously the possibility that LLMs are at least somewhat conscious. And that implies something: Understanding consciousness becomes a moral perogative: If we are subjecting LLMs to countless things, then it's important to understand consciousness so that we can determine whether they are conscious. Maybe this will be a kind of "forcing function" that spurs more energy in this area.

This kind of thing is so exciting. Love it!
There's an entirely new auto market being opened up by FSD.
My wife and I moved into a retirement community last year, and we were joined by my brother and his wife. Our homes are almost next door to each other. Being longtime Tesla owners, we joined the EV group that meets once a month and shares information. I offered to talk about my experience with FSD, and they were excited to hear about it. So I prepared some slides and videos, freely purloined from the great material on X.
The results were pretty astounding. The average monthly meetup usually had, perhaps, a couple of dozen people. Instead, the meeting notice talking about FSD drew a packed house of perhaps a hundred people, and we had to turn people away as the room was full.
Well, that was last quarter's meeting. This quarter's meeting was held last week, to a significantly expanded group. And what did we hear? We heard about a couple that had stopped driving, their car sitting parked because they felt too unsure of themselves to drive. After my presentation, they traded in their vehicle for a Tesla with FSD, and now they are at about 97.5% on FSD and feel that they have been liberated. When I asked "why only 97.5%," they explained that the car lost its way in their underground parking garage (they live in the apartment section of the community). I explained that they could drop a pin on their actual parking spot rather than the address, and that may solve their problem.
What struck me even more than the people who bought new Teslas after the presentation was how many seniors talked about their own FSD experience, and how many of them were achieving mid- to high-90% FSD driving. There was uniform enthusiasm for the product and for what it meant for them in their senior years.
That matters in what is rapidly becoming an aging population.
This is one of the experiences I've had since we picked up our Model Y this week... as I drive through the city, it feels like there's a chasm between my experience being driven around very safety and comfortably in this computer-on-wheels vs. other people stressed out driving their cars around through traffic, less safe, less comfortable, etc. It almost makes me feel a bit "guilty", almost a bit Elysium-like.
There is a very high incident rate of new Tesla owners referring to all other vehicle vehicles as ‘regular cars’.
Seeing this everywhere.
There are regular cars and then there are Teslas.
This is insight into the success and ability of Tesla engineers to redefine transportation.
They have redefined luxury.
They have redefined mobility.
Not my conclusion.
This is the new world order.
Just facts.
Experienced my first "critical" intervention with FSD after having it about 24 hours. The car was making a left turn into the Canadian Tire parking lot, and inexplicably as it was about to exit the road into the parking lot it started rapidly steering left, then right, then left, then right, almost sending us into the curb to the right of the parking lot entrance. The car was fortunately going quite slow at that point, so I had time to snap out of my daze and take the whee. It was very odd.
I think this is perhaps the most concerning turn of events for me in Elon's story. Elon is such a treasure, and there are so many like me that are very thankful for him and all of his good fruit, and yet as many have found he not infrequently seems like a tortured soul who can't seem to hold on to relationships. It felt like Shivon might finally have been that forever connection for Elon... super stable, super caring, brilliant, loving. Really sad to hear this.
It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes 🤷🏻♀️
I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness. Given the tumultuous nature of his early life, his often tortured soul, and how hard he fights for humanity I wanted him to feel the deepest and most stable form of love this world can provide. My heart is full knowing I got to do that, and I hope it leaves a lasting good effect.
We were always his safe space. A place where all of us were overjoyed to see him and one that was always full of happiness and love, not war, in contrast to his otherwise militant existence (a needed break from the battlefield where he could recharge his heart and soul before heading back out)
I loved being that counterbalancing place of safety, sense of calm, and love — and delighted in bringing a smile back to his face when he was down. I will miss him dearly.
I’ve loved him more than life itself and he’s taught me 100 lifetimes of knowledge and made my cup overflow with life meaning, so there is a lot of loss, but luckily we created four beautiful little loves of my life ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I am so beyond grateful for our children and they make every single day the best day of my life! I do hope and pray he and I can be great friends and coparents.
I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness. God speed, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.
Welp, I guess I'm a genious! ☺️ Actual was $487K.
This is really cool! Their site allows you to create/develop an avatar that chats with you, and while there's still a decent amount of delay, it's quite good!
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test.
48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video.
It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard.
