We got your back, New York!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026).

Italian efficiency when it comes to coffee should be studied.
In Italy:
- Walk into a bar and look at the guy
- Un caffe
- 30 seconds later it’s ready
- Shoot it
- Leave €1
- Walk out
In the US:
- Join a line
- Wait
- Order coffee
- Answer 12 questions: Size? Milk? Roast? Sugar? Temperature? Colombia beans? Name? How do you spell it?
- $12.34
- Ask for a 20% tip. Click 5 times on a ipad to have a custom tip
- Tap phone
- ask where to send the invoice
- Wait again on a different line
- Someone call a name that sounds similar to mine
- get the coffee
- too hot, can't drink it
- finally at temperature
taste like shit

If you put the Apple icons in reverse it looks like the portfolio of someone getting really really good at icon design

The tragedy of Liquid Glass is that the materials does fit the premium aesthetic that Apple has made their brand, but it is absolutely horrible legibility-wise in certain scenarios and does not play well with productivity-focused applications like desktop

Exceptionally good article on UI design, using Tahoe's regressions as examples of what not to do. Lots of side-by-side examples making the abstract obvious.

Liquid Glass is a design cancer.
It consumes and overwhelms everything it touches by adding intense distortions, drop shadows, lighting effects, and unnatural spacing to controls and UI in ways that make them harder to see and understand.
It is pretty, and seductive, but it makes every interface it touches worse by prioritizing fun effects over common sense design principles like contrast, uniformity, readability, and sane information density.
Liquid Glass is the antithesis of great UI design: it is fashion. Form over function.
Great design “isn’t just what it looks like, it’s how it works”. And Liquid Glass makes nearly everything it touches look pretty, but work worse.

Interrupting my holiday break to say: iOS 26 is bad. Worse. It's not just liquid glass. Everything is now one or more extra taps away. Actions buried. Keyboard downgraded. Siri is essentially dead. Apple undid years of good work.

This is HUGE!!
It took a company able and willing to spend hundreds of millions of $$ to stand up to Apple and run an expensive lawsuit to prove that Apple is in the wrong mandating Apple in-app payments only
Every and all app devs can thank Epic. Apple FINALLY has to compete!!

I feel like I'm destined to repeat this message until I die, but: rather than using replacingOccurrences(of:with:) you should almost certainly use replacing(_:with:) instead. (But only if you want to avoid the most random bugs you can imagine.) Details: hackingwithswift.com/article…

On Zohran Mamdani:
Insane how people can see a political candidate that spent his entire time among the people - taxi drivers, artists, senior citizens, minimum wage workers, bodega owners, halal cart operators, social media creators, club goers, marathon runners, religious leaders, community organization members, live sports attendees, literally any and every part and demographic of the city, all while answering every question with poise and purpose, and yet say that he is a bad guy who doesn’t care about the city.
My whole life I’ve been so disillusioned and disappointed by politics and politicians globally and witnessing this campaign has been a ray of hope and sunshine and a showcase of how campaigning should be and what’s possible if a politician really cares about the causes he’s fighting for and the people who he wants to lead. This campaign will inspire a new generation of politicians that will pave change and boost representation of ideas and values among the traditionally archaic political guard.

Monopolies are the backbone of fascism.
When Apple can decide what you see on your phone, it’s easy for a lawless gov’t to collude with them to silence speech and target the organizers that dare to fight back.

Imagine if they had built it with React Native — everyone would have blamed RN for this. 😂 (like the stupid windows start menu problem earlier this year, which, once again, isn’t RN’s fault)
Looks like @Apple ships without testing.
See in the video, I have Adobe photoshop installed, it's displayed.
If I enter "Adobe" or "Photo" in search bar, it doesn't find Adobe photoshop 🤨
