No single private actor should hold a kill switch over a U.S. ally’s defense. In the latest issue of Domain Awareness, PPI’s @tamarjacoby, Mary Guenther, and @danielle_steitz explain how Starlink restrictions weakened Ukraine’s drone defenses and eroded allied trust in U.S. technology. progressivepolicy.org/ukrain…

I’d wager this is a very popular announcement in Ukraine - the utility of satellite communication provider diversification is quite clear at the moment!
ICEYE and @Nokia announced today a partnership with The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to develop sovereign satellite communications. ICEYE has supported Ukraine since 2022 and delivers sovereign space capability at speed. This builds on that. Read more: hubs.li/Q04C3bj-0

Anthropic will be very surprised to learn that the US government can’t direct a private company to make or not make particular decisions.
Replying to @lrozen
Rubio: “The important point is we cannot direct a private company as to the decisions they make or not make.  What I can tell you with certainty is the President of the United States nor anyone in our system ever requested that any changes to that system be made, and that’s what we said repeatedly.”

Almost like there was never a national security justification for any of this in the first place 🤔
New: Final plans for Trump’s arch make no mention of drones, snipers or other military features Trump said last month he’d convert the arch to a “military complex” But the only updates are to lighting — like a new “eternal flame” for the statue — and local traffic planning

This is so deeply shameful. Trump and Musk are actively betraying Ukraine.
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone." He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population." He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory." "They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this." He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

I generally don’t agree with Brian Kilmeade on much, but credit where it is absolutely due here: this is exactly the kind of pushback needed on Trump’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, and I hope it resonates with the Fox News-watching public.
A must-watch exchange between Brian @kilmeade and Rachel Campos-Duffy on FOX & Friends about Ukraine and Trump’s Russian diesel deal. Here’s the full transcript: CAMPOS-DUFFY: I know you're a big fan of Zelensky, but yesterday President Trump said maybe it's time for an election and a new leader in Ukraine because Zelensky keeps blowing up these refineries after the president said, "Please don't do that," especially before the midterms. He keeps doing it, and it's hurting President Trump and the administration, who's been very generous toward him and his war effort. KILMEADE: The president got ticked off because Zelensky came out and said, "Do not buy 5 million tons of diesel," which is in violation, I thought, of the bill they just signed, Lindsey Graham's bill, that says if you buy any energy from Russia, you're going to get sanctioned with tariffs. Are we going to tariff ourselves? So I have no idea. Zelensky's frustrated because now all this money is going to flow into Russia, which started this whole war unprovoked. They are the bad guys, and there is no way Zelensky turned down any plausible deal. In fact, since that time, when they told him he was going to lose the Donbas, he has gained back portions of the Donbas. CAMPOS-DUFFY: Are you saying that there were no peace efforts? KILMEADE: There was no plausible, practical peace effort that Vladimir Putin would participate in effectively that would end this war. There's one person who is responsible: Vladimir Putin. That is it. And he gets his ass kicked. CAMPOS-DUFFY: There was a peace deal that—I think Turkey was trying to broker it, and Boris Johnson advised Zelensky not to take that deal. KILMEADE: It doesn't matter. I don't know what Boris Johnson's doing now. Is he in a retirement home? CAMPOS-DUFFY: I think there's a reason why the president is buying diesel from Russia, and that's because Zelensky keeps blowing up the refineries. KILMEADE: Can you blame him? That's the war machine that's killing his people, that bombs apartment buildings. CAMPOS-DUFFY: But he's dependent on us, and the president said, "Don't do this." Are you for America or for Ukraine? KILMEADE: The diesel fuel got stopped because Iran was blowing up the Gulf states' oil and their refineries, and now all of a sudden there's a new emphasis on Russia. But for me, the way Ukraine innovated drone technology in order to take out what's fueling the Russian war machine is phenomenal. They'll be writing about this in war journals forever. The Ukrainians have modernized modern war before our very eyes. CAMPOS-DUFFY: I'm not so sure that's a positive, Brian. I mean, there are 30,000 young men on each side who are dying every single month. KILMEADE: Vladimir Putin. CAMPOS-DUFFY: Every single month. We should not be practicing drone technology and using these kids as guinea pigs. KILMEADE: What kids? CAMPOS-DUFFY: The soldiers. These are young men… KILMEADE: Rachel, these are in response to attacks. They're getting rocketed, so they found a way… CAMPOS-DUFFY: The president said he wanted peace in Ukraine, and he said he was going to do that. KILMEADE: Tell Vladimir Putin. CAMPOS-DUFFY: Well, now, because of what Zelensky is doing, we're probably going to get peace there because President Trump is now working with Russia, because Zelensky is so arrogant. KILMEADE: It would be the biggest mistake of his administration to work with Russia. That is the modern Hitler of our generation. He is the cause of all the problems in the region, and now he's helping Iran kill our guys and blow up our bases. And now, yeah, the story you pointed out to me today in The Wall Street Journal—you see that they and China are providing drones to the Houthis. China and Russia are the problem.

The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List is how the United States sells weapons to Europe, which are then provided for Ukraine’s defenses. The price tag for these weapons is in the billions of dollars (upwards of $6.7 billion to date), orders of magnitude higher than what the Russian diesel deal is worth. Trump would be losing money — and costing the American defense industry revenue — for a sham deal with Russia that benefits none outside of Moscow and Miami. Just to give you a sense of his prioritized requirements.

The Trump administration’s inability to see the second- and third-order impacts of literally any decision it makes will be studied for years to come. You know what would have prevented shocks to global energy markets? Avoiding a war of choice with Iran in the first place!
SCOOP @FT: The Trump administration is threatening to stop the PURL procurement system that provides Ukraine with weapons in order to press Kyiv to halt its deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, according to officials in Europe. The officials, who received calls from American officials on Saturday and Sunday or were briefed on them, said the US was lobbying European capitals and Kyiv in an attempt to end the attacks on Russian oil refineries. The White House declined to confirm or comment on the calls. w/ @HenryJFoy @ahauslohner ft.com/content/68fd8c4f-6f34…

This is one of the guys leading DoD’s brain trust on the future of war, by the way…
Palmer Luckey reveals the startup he'd build today: oxytocin doping to end divorce "I would try to end the tragedy of divorce with oxytocin doping for marriage counseling." "We understand mammal pair bonding pretty well. There's a lot of people who want to stay together. Most of the people who don't want to stay together should stay together, especially for their kids." "And we can, if people think SSRIs are fine, which they're not, but if they were, then oxytocin doping to stay together is definitely fine." "It's the mammal pair bonding chemical. There's things you can do to increase the uptake, and it's very well understood. Also, totally unregulated, which is great. Unregulated spaces are a lot easier to do. You can go buy a kilogram of oxytocin on Sigma Aldrich Chemical Supply right now, and if you do that, maybe you won't die alone." "It's pure biology. It's used for women who don't bond with their kids, and now for women who don't bond with their husbands. It's also used for kids with various neurological issues, some kids with autism who struggle with pair bonding." "The cool thing is it's a self-reinforcing loop. We understand that very well. Unlike most drugs, it doesn't form a chemical dependency. It actually unburdens you from a chemical dependency."

I realize everyone in this administration just says whatever they want and words are meaningless, but a "cut" to enrichment capacity is a pretty far cry from the American demand in July (let alone before the war)

Even before considering all of the other reasons Parnell is woefully unqualified, this dishonesty about American soldiers killed in conflict ought to be disqualifying for anyone seeking to lead the U.S. Army.
Just your reminder that the apparent leading candidate to become the next Secretary of the US Army has absolutely no problem telling the world that this building made of sheet metal surrounded by 6' T walls is a "secure facility that was fortified".

This has to be an SNL skit. Is Hegseth picking these names out of a hat?
Hegseth: We are leveraging a unique source of American advantage, one our adversaries do not have. An effort led by America's best minds to study the future of warfare.   It will be co-led by three of our nation's best minds: Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, and Newt Gingrich.

The Trump admin’s attempt to set up a “naughty and nice” list for NATO allies is unhelpful and risks creating wedges between European allies right as the U.S. wants them to band together and take on more of their collective security burden.

When I was on the HASC staff, it was expected of everyone that you took meetings alongside your D/R counterparts. There were no separate DoD engagements, bc national security is a bipartisan issue. Pete Hegseth and Pentagon leadership need to understand that and act accordingly.
Important story: Republicans increasingly frustrated with Sec. Hegseth, hampering his ability to hundreds of billions in defense $. This will be huge pain point after the election because he probably needs 50/53 R votes in Senate, not to mention the House - GOP senator: “There are a lot of people that are really upset with the war in Iran and how it’s being played out. We feel it’s hurting our chances in the elections in the fall" - Trump official: “This could turn into a real standoff with the military caught in the middle" - Sen. Tillis: "I don’t think he’s built strong enough relationships ... why is anybody going to blindly appropriate anything to him?” - Sen. Cramer says "strategic error" not to engage with Democrats: “Republicans are frustrated that he hasn’t reached out to Democrats. He didn’t in his confirmation, and he hasn’t much since at all" -Approps Chair Collins: "One of my concerns, which unfortunately has been borne out, was that he would fire a lot of very capable military officials, and he has done that. He has blocked promotions for some of our most capable military officers ... He also is not the most respectful when it comes to Congress’ role" - Pentagon spox says they are “in lockstep with the Republican conference in Congress to achieve the President’s historic investment in defense" Story w @ShelbyTalcott semafor.com/article/09/27/20…

The White House just pushed hard for the passage of the Lindsay Graham Sanctions Act to put financial pressure on the nations supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine… only to turn around and invite Russia to join the leading economies at the table. What a joke.

Yet another instance of Trump making ridiculous claims of “national security” to justify a petty and self-serving choice. This should be laughed out of court.
NEW: DOJ is justifying President Trump's ban on media orgs by citing stories about sensitive topics like depleted U.S. munitions, the war in Iran, Trump's ballroom security features and ... bad "vibes" at the GOP midterm convention w/ @joshgerstein politico.com/news/2026/09/23…

There is no world in which U.S. national security requires a giant drone- and sniper-filled in the middle of a traffic circle. This reeks of the Trump admin planning to argue this case on “national security grounds,” as well as the potential misappropriation of DoD funding.
