The acid test for any two competing socioeconomic systems is which side needs to build a wall to keep people from escaping? That’s the bad one!

It cannot be overstated how valuable @OracleCloud's "we will never bill you until you affirmatively upgrade your account" is for use cases like this.

The Always Free tier is legit; as long as Minecraft's server component supports Arm I heartily endorse this. On AWS's free* tier it'd be free for a year, then surprise billing time. And if you screw up the security, you get a surprise $80K bill next month apparently.

This morning my 18 year old daughter said that it would be "cool" and "less expensive" to run her Minecraft server on Oracle Cloud and I just wish I could see @QuinnyPig's face as he reads this.

When coding a supposed financial system, consider investing a bit more than you’re (apparently) used to in writing a good test suite.

You don't owe any more loyalty to an employer than they show to you. If they're willing to fire you without cause, you have every right to leave without guilt. If they're not willing to invest in your well-being and success, you have no obligation to invest in theirs.
