Labour MP Helena Dollimore highlights the real-world consequences of Britain's departure from the EU: small businesses struggling to export, musicians facing barriers to touring Europe, and international trains no longer stopping at Ashford.

Completely daft take - The EU structure is based on localism. MEPs are allocated by region, then there’s regional funding designed to decentralise the support mechanisms (which was a huge help to Cornwall, Wales). Even with trade deals, regions get a say (unlike with UK).
Most fundamentally, if you arrive in a Downing Street promising to pass power down from the centre to the people, but instead pass it up to Brussels, you aren’t Mr Localism any more.

I voted LD against Boris Johnson to stop Brexit in 2019 (and a monstrosity of a Tory PM and local MP), everything Jo Swinson said was correct and she was brave. I’m not remotely LD. If full Rejoin via referendum is offered I’ll vote Labour. And I’m not remotely Labour. It is to the eternal shame of the Tories that they ever became the party of Brexit when 2/3 of their MPs never backed it. I joined, worked for, married in to an outward looking, tolerant party. It’s unrecognisable - the ECHR stuff genuinely mad never mind the rest (Christ) and the cast of characters in charge the very people who routed it - all of them Trussers. I’m always country first, not me, I use my vote for the good of the country and the single best, most transformative thing for this country is to stop staggering along with 2 broken legs and get back in to the EU. I will vote for whoever reverses Brexit and has a chance of forming a majority government. I didn’t like how Burnham arrived and disagree with a lot of his agenda but on Brexit he’s bang on - keep going, give me that referendum tomorrow. I will run to the polling station. I’m not tribal, I’m looking for competence and a strong economy.

The way to minimise uncertainty for UK business is to join the EU. Everything else means a constant flux of negotiation without the full economic benefits of membership.

The Euro must not be used as a barrier against joining the EU. It is not an obstacles. Don't believe otherwise.

‼️ Andy Haldane says reopening Britain’s relationship with Europe would create a “huge dust cloud of uncertainty”. But he’s confusing causing the damage with repairing it. Brexit created uncertainty bc Britain was dismantling its relationship with its largest market while nobody knew what would replace it. And then Brexit erected new trade barriers. The OBR still estimates those barriers will leave UK productivity 4% lower in the long run than if we’d remained. Removing barriers, restoring market access and giving businesses a clear route back towards European economic integration is not simply repeating 2016 in reverse. **Brexit created the problem. 🆘 Fixing Brexit is not another Brexit.**

🇬🇧🇪🇺 Burnham will make history. He has politically stabilised the UK, securing 32% support He will secure a hybrid agreement with the EU while full membership is negotiated. His foreign policy is strongly pro-Ukraine, pro-Europe and in favour of European unity. The EU is becoming a joint economic and military bloc, and the UK must be part of it. Burnham could become the UK’s best prime minister of the past half-century. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/a…

This. Joining the EU makes eminent business sense.

Agreed, the debate was never closed - and is wide open now anyway because of the damage Brexit is doing every year - we could let it fester or talk about it like adults

Good. Might be dawning on some Europeans that most of the populist parties who are wrapping themselves in the flag, are really more stalking horses for Russia.

Just thinking ie stole from elsewhere, if you want real economic uncertainty, commit to leaving the ECHR. That will tear up the existing UK-EU trade agreement, and quite possibly lead to US retaliatory measures because of Northern Ireland. But yeah, don't talk about movement.

#bbcbreakfast Brexit has not been “reopened because of Andy Burnham”, but because: - it’s turned out to be a costly mistake - geopolitics shows we can’t rely on the US, but need to work with our neighbours with whom we share common interests - the public has turned against it

Disappointing to hear Andy Haldane talking such nonsense. The 2016 Brexit referendum created a cloud of uncertainty because it led to trade barriers going up. Rejoining the EU would bring trade barriers down.
