In China your cure for cancer is sold over the counter...
In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

During the past few days, the pace of Israeli strikes and attacks in Gaza has clearly intensified, bringing back a feeling we never really escaped in the first place: not knowing who will be next. Yesterday, a group of civilians was targeted. Four people were killed and others were wounded, some critically, with little hope of survival. Today, a public bus was targeted in al Alhawa while pulling a trailer that was also packed with passengers. So far, reports say that six people were killed and around 15 others wounded, some of them critically. Just ordinary people trying to get from one place to another. This escalation comes as the Israeli elections approach, and with them, the competition over security, power, victory, and who can prove themselves tougher than the others. And what better way to prove strength in a country where power and arrogance have increasingly become measures of success? The blood of innocent people. Yes, our blood. Our spilled blood has now become part of this political competition too. Killing more people in Gaza can be presented to Israeli voters as proof of strength. Another torn Palestinian body becomes another number that some politician can somehow add to the list of his achievements. For them, this may be about elections, polls, seats, coalitions, and who will be in power a few weeks from now. For us, an Israeli strike means that a mother will hear her son’s name among the dead today. A child will return to the tent without his father. A man got on public transport this morning simply because he needed to get somewhere, and his life ended before he arrived. This is what all these speeches about strength look like from our side. I don’t know how many more times we are expected to die before everyone has finally proved how strong they are over our bodies. Ya Wahdna… How much pain can one people carry? My heart hurts from all of this. #SurvivalTestimony

They taught the world to experience slaughter as background noise through a very precise editorial choice: The passive voice. Civilians were killed. Villages were destroyed. People were displaced. Not: American airstrikes killed civilians. Not: British forces destroyed villages. Not: Israeli bombardment displaced families. The passive voice is the grammatical form of impunity. It describes the wound without naming the hand that made it. It is not accidental. Style guides don't produce this pattern. Editors don't produce it. It is produced by the political culture that newsrooms exist inside, which makes certain sentences feel natural and certain sentences feel like advocacy. "Militants were targeted." Natural. Objective. News. "Children were killed in a strike on a residential building." Natural. Objective. News. "The U.S. military killed children." Feels like a claim that requires proof. Feels like advocacy. Feels like editorializing. The children are equally dead in all three sentences. Only one sentence sounds like journalism. And the one that sounds like journalism is the one that tells you the least about what happened. This is not a bug in the system. This is the system working exactly as designed.

🚨 “The More Dysgenic, the Better”: Beatrice Adler-Bolton Says the Left Must Give Up the “Fantasy of Being Fitter Than the Fascists” At Socialism 2026, Adler-Bolton argues that “fitness is a measure of relative disposability under capitalism” and says the goal should not be to become “more useful to the ruling order.” She says the left should not try to beat fascists “at their own game” by becoming “fitter, more eugenic.” “In fact, the more dysgenic, the better, I think.” She closes by arguing that revolution is not “a contest between optimized and properly prepared bodies” and that the very idea is itself fascist.

kids need to hear you defend them btw. when you see someone wronging them, don’t save it for a “grown folk’s conversation,” step in and say “you are not being fair to this child.” that’s critical for their self-esteem. many kids have never been shown that they’re worth defending.

Eventually it won’t even be subtle. In Canada disabled patients have been offered assisted death despite making it clear that they want to live. When MAiD was expanded to include people with disabilities, the safeguard that prevented doctors from suggesting it was removed.

Remember how we were always hearing that the official death toll in Gaza is an undercount because there are thousands of bodies trapped under the rubble? Well, it looks like Israel has been moving those remains along with the rubble, conveniently destroying evidence of genocide. Drop Site News reports: "The Palestinian Center for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons has accused Israel of destroying evidence that could identify thousands of Palestinians buried beneath Gaza’s rubble or reveal the fate of those forcibly disappeared. "The center says Israeli forces are moving hundreds of tons of debris each day from destroyed neighborhoods inside closed military zones. Crushing and removing it could pulverize human remains, mix them with rubble and waste, erase the locations of burial sites, and destroy DNA and other forensic evidence. "Around 7,000 Palestinians remain missing in Gaza, including an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 believed trapped beneath the ruins. “These sites are not merely construction waste,” the center warned. It called for urgent UN and Red Cross intervention, access for rescue and forensic teams, and independent oversight of all future rubble removal." Last month, a report by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor estimated that “at least 10 million tonnes of rubble have been removed, crushed, or moved from their original sites within the areas under Israel’s unlawful military control.” “In recent weeks, Euro-Med Monitor tracked nearly 100 Israeli trucks daily leaving the Gaza Strip with debris,” the report reads. “These trucks carry rubble to undisclosed sites within Israel and further south of the occupied West Bank. The Israeli authorities have not provided details on the quantities removed, the routes taken, the destination sites, or how the material is utilised. They also have not permitted independent oversight of the sorting, weighing, or transport processes. This lack of transparency makes it very difficult to trace the transported material, identify evidence, or recover any human remains that might be present.” Euro-Med Monitor notes that this removal occurs while Israel is still under investigation by the International Criminal Court for the crime of genocide, adding that the Rome Statute considers “destroying, tampering with or interfering with the collection of evidence” as criminal acts that hinder the ICC’s justice mission when done deliberately. In South Africa’s genocide case against Israel in the International Court of Justice, the court ruled that “The State of Israel shall take effective measures to prevent the destruction and ensure the preservation of evidence related to allegations of acts within the scope of Article II and Article III of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide against members of the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip.” These obligations are plainly being disregarded as Israel scrambles to cover up evidence of its crimes. On Sunday, Palestinians in Gaza held a mass funeral for approximately 100 people, including 60 children. These individuals were not killed recently; the mass funeral was held because their bodies had been recovered from the rubble of destroyed buildings in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood. This is the sort of thing Israel is working to prevent as it clears out the wreckage from its genocidal onslaught. You don’t generally look at construction equipment and think of it as a tool for genocide, but in occupied Palestine that’s exactly what this machinery is used for. They use it to knock down homes. To bury their victims. To conceal the evidence. The state of Israel should have a Caterpillar D9 bulldozer on its flag.

people always ask me what i they can do and the answer is, of course, different for everyone but I think a good place to start is efforts like this, workers in SC are trying to shut down a plant making munitions killing people in Gaza & Lebanon. Sarah visited their May Day Action
I spent my May Day in Ladson, South Carolina at a picket of a factory belonging to Israeli weapons company Elbit. The plant makes munitions that Israel is using in Lebanon, where it has killed more than 2,500 people in the past 2 months. Here's my report. inthesetimes.com/article/sou…

I write to you now about something I witnessed during the genocidal war in Gaza, and I will never forget it for as long as I live. We were displaced inside a UNRWA school in northern Gaza. On that day, Israeli soldiers stormed the school and ordered all the young men to come out without clothes, so we came out naked, under humiliation and fear. After that, they began taking some of us on a truck for arrest, while others were kept in a temporary enclosed place, and I was among them. There was a young man who was the only son of his mother. He did not come out with us, because his mother held onto him and was afraid for him. When the soldiers came to search the place, they pulled him from her arms while she begged them and screamed: “Please… leave him.” But before my eyes, they shot her directly in the head, then arrested her son as well. It is a scene I can never forget. How much humiliation and suffering we have endured in this war… My heart is full of pain. 💔

Palestinians in Gaza feel forgotten - and they’re right. Donations dropped drastically and the media barely mentions Gaza and when it does it’s censored and full of fake news. Please help today: chuffed.org/project/help-us-… Palestinians are having fist fights to get bread to eat. Food is too expensive for most people to buy. Many children remain malnourished. The situation is beyond tragic and Palestinians in Gaza are being killed slowly while the world remains silent. The Sameer Project bakery is trying to tackle the bread issue by doing daily distributions in displacement camps. On April 22nd, we gave out 150 bags of bread to Salam Camp and 70 bags to Kanz Camp in Gaza City. 20 bags were distributed to surrounding tents. The 240 bags cost $677, including the 11% commission. For around $3, you provide a family in Gaza with a bag of bread that is enough for a large family for the day or for a small family for two days. During the famine last summer, a bag of bread was a dream - please help us feed Palestinians in Gaza. Donate urgently to the Food & Water Campaign: chuffed.org/project/help-us-… Other ways to donate include: paypal.me/mahertali (Paypal option, please make sure to add a message saying "Food") account.venmo.com/u/Maher-Al… (Venmo option, please make sure to add a message saying "Food")

Most ppl don’t realize that even $3 can make this much of a difference right now in Gz. This is not all that we should be doing, it is the bare bare minimum but ppl must be kept alive while the fight continues. If you’re seeing this and have $3 in your account, donate $3.
