the entitlement some people have had has blown me away and this is coming from someone who didn’t even ask for their own fics to be withheld, just stated that I had conflicting feelings over the topic. I can’t imagine how writers who are requesting to be withheld are feeling :/

i think everyone needs to get a lot more respectful of ao3 authors and see them as more than just free labor providing you with porn because some of the reactions to ao3 going down have been disappointing to see

So many people taking about "writing for the love of the game" as if that's at all sustainable for a fan COMMUNITY. It's 100% understandable to be sad that you're getting locked out of conversations and treated like a Content Producer instead of a fellow fan to yap with.

most fic writers don’t want engagement to “get famous” or anything. it’s just that when you put your heart into something, it feels good to know people liked and enjoyed it. it also helps motivation to write more. if you ignore fic writers, there won’t be any more fics to read🤷♀️

everyone is understandably devastated about ao3 but this is also a good time to remember that the archive is only as wonderful as the people who contribute to it. let's stop turning on fic authors at every chance available over the smallest things possible. be a little kinder.
