Call for Applications: Global South Travel Grants
The Global South Caucus for International Studies (GSCIS) invites applications for Global South Travel Grants. There are three criteria for the award. First, these competitive grants are available to presenters working at institutions in the Global South. For the purpose of this grant, the Global South includes Latin America and the Caribbean, South and Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Africa, the Middle East/North Africa, and developing regions of Eurasia. Second, presenters must have a paper accepted for the ISA 2025 Annual Convention in Chicago. Third, at the time of the award's receipt, the recipients must be members of the GSCIS Caucus and ISA.
Award Details: Up to two recipients will receive a reimbursement of up to $700 to cover travel and accommodation costs directly related to attending the ISA Convention. Reimbursements will be processed after the Chicago Convention upon submission of eligible travel and accommodation receipts.
Eligibility and Selection: Anyone meeting the above criteria is eligible to apply, with a particular emphasis on applications from early career scholars and female candidates. The Selection Committee reserves the right to withhold the award if no suitable applications are submitted. Recipients must maintain active GSCIS and ISA membership until reimbursement is completed.
Application Requirements: To apply, please submit the following documents:
1Motivation Letter (max. 300 words): Describe how attending the ISA Convention will benefit your research and career objectives. This may include plans to network, participate in other panels, or receive feedback on your presentation.
2Abstract of the accepted paper.
3Budget detailing expected costs and available funds.
4Proof of Acceptance for ISA 2025 participation.
Submissions exceeding 300 words in the motivation letter or missing any of these documents will not be considered.
Submission Instructions: All application materials should be sent in a single PDF file to the award committee chair, Dêlidji Eric Degila, at [email protected] by Friday, November 30, 2024. Award recipients will be notified by December 5, 2024.
Prime Minister Luxon will deliver an apology tomorrow to survivors of abuse in care in Aotearoa New Zealand. This is based on the work of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in Care. Journalist and survivor advocate Aaron Smale (Ngāti Porou, Ngāpuhi, Pākehā) has done excellent work on this process and the journey ahead.
Looking forward to the International Indigenous Research Conference this week. Really powerful line up of speakers and participants.

Currently organizing a "field school" - an intensive course based in Aotearoa for University of Guelph students. They will come to Tamaki Makaurau and te Whanganui-a-Tara (Auckland and Wellington) in May, 2025. Will be an interesting experience with lots to do and see.
The second edition of our book on populism and world politics is in the works and nearing completion. Thank you to my fellow editors Frank Stengel and Dirk Nabers and all our contributors! This is the cover of the first edition.
Pleased to announce that the first of a two-book series (with Emily Grafton) will be coming out with University of Regina Press, entitled On Settler Colonialism in Canada: Lands and Peoples (in press for 2025) We plan to feature the work of David Garneau on the cover.
Have not got around to watching the Sask leader's debate yet. regina.ctvnews.ca/here-s-wha…

Please consider downloading this report. Difficult truths to learn - but we must to ensure it never happens again.
