New paper: nature.com/articles/s41467-0… ! We finally get to see native chlamydial MOMP by cryo-EM: a trimer with three β-barrels topped by a folded antigenic cap. It is strange, beautiful, and full of clues for vaccine design. (1/5)
Cryo-electron tomography reveals OmpB is required for the Rickettsia parkeri S-layer doi.org/10.17912/micropub.bi…
The cap is where the immune story gets exciting: variable domains from all three protomers make one antigenic surface, and antibody binding reshapes it. This is why native structure matters for MOMP vaccine design. (4/5)
Seeing the structure makes old observations click — adhesion, redox, antibody recognition, vaccine design. Also: the transparent peer-review file has hidden gems; the reviewers pushed the story in the best way. Huge thanks to all co-authors! (5/5) utsouthwestern.edu/newsroom/…

How can the same "master regulatory" protein mTOR recognize different sets of targets to separate nutrient and growth factor signals?
Thrilled to share our new paper, in which we reveal how mTORC2 recognizes Akt.

Turns out they said yes! statnews.com/2025/07/21/casp…
Maybe @Google or @GoogleDeepMind should fund CASP, given their ample resources and how much they've benefited from the efforts of John Moult, Krzysztof Fidelis, Andriy Kryshtafovych, Nick Grishin, and many others.
