Pre-Ozempic, there were many theories: fat people weren't really hungry--it was our obesogenic environmemt, ultra-processed food, sedentariness, emotional problems. Post-Ozempic, we know: most were just really hungry. Reduce their hunger & they lose weight.
Diet studies often find that ~80% of weight comes back within 5 years. If calorie math is so simple (calories in minus calories out), why do diets so rarely succeed long-term? Dr. Katharine Saunders explains in our latest Clearer Thinking podcast episode: podcast.clearerthinking.org/…

It's a brainstorming workspace with an infinite canvas, where you can organize your thoughts and explore ideas. Built for individual and for team's brainstorming session.
Very excited with this project :D Also quite a domain huh

Game theory advice:
Never ask yourself why a person behaves the way they do. That's a broad question, and you'll find nothing. Instead, find a clear structural reason: an incentive. Ask: "What outcome is being rewarded?"
Is it the pursuit of social status, a monetary gain, or maybe an emotional desire? You're only ever as intelligent as the questions you seek to answer.

We have spun up 1061 computers since started boxcompute
Couldn't do all this without the great infra team,
Btw we manage everything end to end ourselves with the help from partners,
From buying the baremetal -> setting up the servers -> assembling the components and even wrote the virtualization method ourselves
Even with the help of AI, domain expertise is still crucial to build this kind of product

Carl Jung was right when he said: in my experience, I have found that the solutions to all of life’s most intractable problems are not found through any form of intellect or cleverness.
They are solved simply by moving on.

Godot went from the cool underdog that you may want to use someday to something nobody should take seriously in 2026.
The future game engine is either UE6 or a new AI native engine we haven’t heard of yet. And long term it will be: “what’s an engine?”
Replying to @LudensLudonauta
"Ohh it's open source so fix it your own lol"
Probably someone already did with the help of an LLM. But guess what? They don't accept AI assisted PRs.

Apple is dead
it’ll take a few more years for the financials to display it
but just like Nokia, they’ve lost the plot and are currently living off of a lobotomized army of fans that still believe in “the ecosystem”
2020 macbook pro m1 was the last good apple product
today they’re just another company that happens to be at the top of the US stock market ponzi scheme

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government signs a 10-year labor agreement with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is seeking to send 100,000 workers to Japan annually.

The Japan-Bangladesh summit joint statement references no labor agreement or quotas. A 10-year employment MoC was signed by officials October 17 (copies exchanged during the visit) with none specified; 100,000 figures refer to separate aspirational multi-year targets.

Nice reminder
Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) are a flexible method for modeling data that comes from multiple overlapping sources. They assume that the data is generated from a mixture of Gaussian distributions, making them well-suited for identifying clusters with different shapes, sizes, and orientations.
✔️ Works well when clusters overlap or are not clearly separated
✔️ Provides soft assignments, giving a probability for each point’s cluster membership
❌ Requires specifying the number of components ahead of time
❌ Can be sensitive to initialization and may settle on a suboptimal solution
❌ Assumes each component follows a Gaussian distribution, which may not reflect real-world data
Beyond clustering, GMMs are used for density estimation, anomaly detection, image segmentation, and modeling continuous data in tasks like speech recognition. They’re effective when a probabilistic view of the data structure is needed. In high-dimensional spaces or when data distributions deviate strongly from Gaussian, methods like Variational Inference, Dirichlet Process Mixtures, or kernel-based density estimators may offer better results.
The image shows how GMMs can model a complex distribution using multiple overlapping Gaussians. Each peak in the histogram corresponds to a component learned by the model, illustrating how the mixture adapts to fit the data. Credit for the visualization: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixtur…
🔹 In R, the mclust package supports GMMs with built-in tools for model fitting, selection using BIC, and visualization.
🔹 In Python, use GaussianMixture from scikit-learn, customize covariance structure, and compare models with BIC or AIC.
