What if we could remove an entire extra human chromosome? Japanese researchers at Mie University have used CRISPR-Cas9 to selectively remove the extra copy of chromosome 21 from cells with trisomy 21. This is not a treatment yet. But the science is significant. #CRISPR

India’s heart health is changing fast. An ageing population, Westernised lifestyles, changing food habits and rising consumption of processed foods are contributing to an epidemiological transition. youtu.be/NIhblOdaL3k?si=AETk…

This is the paradox of modern healthcare: We are learning to potentially edit chromosomes while access to high-quality prenatal screening and genetic counselling remains uneven. The future of genomics isn't just about spectacular science. It is also about making the basics.

There is a more immediate lesson for India. Before we can talk about correcting chromosome abnormalities, we need to identify pregnancies at increased risk. First-trimester screening—including ultrasound and maternal blood markers such as PAPP-A and free β-hCG—can help
17
But let's not get carried away. The work was demonstrated in cultured cells, not in pregnant women or fetuses. Before this could ever become a clinical intervention, enormous questions around delivery, safety, unintended genetic changes and long-term effects must be answered.

A crucial distinction: Down syndrome is not caused by a single “Down syndrome gene.” It usually results from having three copies of chromosome 21 instead of two. The Japanese approach is therefore interesting because it attempts to correct the chromosome abnormality itself.

Met fellow @IMTGhaziabad alumni from subsequent batches. A long conversation on business, strategy, multitasking and adapting to changing markets. One thought stayed with me: strategy must evolve with the market, but human connections remain constant. #IMTAlumni #Strategy

Somehow, the iPhone Duo does not feel right. It goes against everything Apple design stood for. Thoughts? #AppleDuo #Apple #iPhone

It was great addressing the management students at @IIM_Trichy the discussion was on disruption, and we looked at 4 examples, including the iconic iPhone and how it disrupted the mobile phone market. #Business #Disruption

No wonder innovation does not happen in India. It was sad to see Dr Subhash Mukherjee treated the way he was, leading to his untimely death. This is a cautionary tale both for the scientific community and society.

Totally gutted; he was a role model along with Maldini and based a lot of what I learned from him. Great defender and captain. Om Shanti #FrancoBaresi
Sad news from Italy as Franco Baresi has passed away this morning at 66 years old. An absolute legend of the game with AC Milan and Italy, marking an era for different generations. Thoughts and prayers with the family and the friends. Rest in peace, Franco. ❤️🕊️

Won my first swimming medal; it was not so much about brilliance as it was about consistency. Swimming routine, thrice a week, focus on small improvements. Consistency beats intensity, thanks to @JamesClear, this has become my philosophy #Leadership #AtomicHabits #JamesClear

Great to see another Vikram reaching celestial heights :) truly thrilled by this achievement...
ORBIT ACHIEVED. 🚀 Vikram-1 Test Flight-1 has reached orbit. India's first privately developed orbital rocket has completed its final burn and injected its payloads into a ~450 km orbit, making India the third country in the world with private orbital launch capability. History is made. 🇮🇳 #Vikram1 #JourneyToOrbit #SkyrootAerospace

The proportion of the population below the age of fifteen has declined from 26.5% to 25.5%, while the proportion of people aged sixty years and above has increased from 11.8% to 12.9%. At first glance, those percentages appear almost insignificant. However, percentages can be deceptive in a country with a population exceeding 1.4 billion people. healthcare-in-india.net/arch… #healthcareindia #NFHS6

This is the best piece of advice that I have seen, simple and easy to execute. Most people in India are unaware of this, which is why there are issues with sugar control. @drmohanv
The most common question I hear is: "Should I switch from rice to ragi?" My answer often surprises people. Rice, wheat, ragi and millets are all predominantly carbohydrate foods. Simply changing one grain for another does not automatically make a meal diabetes-friendly. The real question is not: "What grain are you eating?" It's: "How is your plate balanced?" A simple approach I recommend is: 🥗 50% non-starchy green leafy vegetables, 🍲 25% protein (Dal, legumes, paneer, fish, eggs or lean meat), 🍚 25% carbohydrates (Rice, chapati, millets or other grains) This helps reduce blood sugar spikes, increases satiety and improves the overall nutritional quality of the meal. Many Indians consume 65–70% of their calories from carbohydrates. By increasing vegetables and protein while moderating carbohydrate portions, we can make our traditional meals healthier without giving up the foods we love. Remember: Don't just change your grains. Change your proportions. Eat more veggies and protein. — Dr. V. Type 2 diabetes detection in women under 40 in India on the rise. This more concerning than I previously thought. If you are 76er 40 get your HbA1c levels checked immediately youtu.be/PRZO0RvuoHs?si=njQp…
