Yesterday I applied by email to a PERM ad, a job an employer must advertise to Americans before sponsoring a green card. I'm a qualified U.S. applicant.
It's a stretch fit for my background. The silence is the issue.
Still no reply, not even a receipt:

Last week's silences are now in my filing with the Labor Department's Inspector General.

We heard back from Lam Research and aren't reporting them.
Things are moving, and we're tracking every step. TikTok has been responsive. One employer held a phone screen. Appian answered with screening questions.

It seems to me that the #H1B program incentivises the C-Suite to rip off shareholders via de-professionalization, job-selling kickbacks, featherbedding, outsourcing, and crony contracts.
Do we have any insider studies of the Fortune 500's IT productivity trends?
I worked as a software developer for an American insurance and financial group known as USAA. For years, I grudgingly worked on their internal dev tools and customer service applications- some of the most unfun shit I’ve done. Part of the job was listening to Indians talk and minding their shit code, ever wonder why the USAA subreddit is riddled with complaints? I actually believe the decaying quality of their poopoo work might have something to do with it…
The IT department is held together by a handful of competent American people that work as their quality filter, and I still saw some lazy work get the pass because it was the 20th time they’ve re-re-re-reviewed it that week, but I’m afraid those positions will get filled with even more j*ets because holy shit are they only hiring each other, the amount of times they didn’t want me in a team because the leader was Indian was laughable, it was so obvious because everyone in their team is Indian, I was regularly forcibly placed in those teams to make up for their slack, they didn’t like me of course, why lose izzat with me when you can sit on a broken feature for a week and get promoted to leader down the line to hire even more j*ets.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was a huge fucking team that burned through 5 extra months of work because they just couldn’t stop breaking production trying to do the needful; I quit shortly after.

Indian spouse took up 93% of H4 work visa, which effectively doubled India's capture of American jobs on US soil in a few years. 80% or more visa works work entry level jobs meant for American college grads. Not including OPT and visa overstays. Do we even know the diaspora size?

Employees are questioning if Microsoft is abusing H-1B and PERM programs.
A Senior Director at MSFT (good friend of mine) just sent me internal messages between MSFT & some of its employees.
Today, Microsoft just asked THOUSANDS of its employees to voluntarily resign, despite just reporting $133.7B in net income for FY26, up 31%.
Employees are questioning why MSFT isn’t pro-actively downsizing by removing H1B employees before American workers.
Other employees are asking why any employee cuts are being made when profits are so high.

Microsoft currently has 6,000 applications in for H-1B visas. If they are downsizing by 60,000 people, then their H-1B visa numbers should be ZERO.
Watch Microsoft very carefully on this. For the US based workers, are they getting rid of Americans in favor of H-1B visa workers?

Just 18 days after the Trump administration suspended Microsoft from the PERM green card program.
Here’s what we know:
• 60,000 employees eligible for voluntary exit packages.
• 27% of its global workforce.
• Employees across the U.S., Canada, UK and India.
• AI, Copilot, Windows and other divisions affected.
• Another 4,800 jobs were eliminated in July.
On October 8, JD Vance accused Microsoft of laying off American workers while sponsoring foreign workers.
Microsoft disputed those allegations.
Now the company is offering buyouts to more than a quarter of its workforce.
These are voluntary offers, not 60,000 confirmed job cuts.

Microsoft laying off 30% of the workforce (voluntary buyouts for now but will become layoffs if not exercised) can be read a few different ways, all valid
1) AI replacement
2) They were 30% overstaffed to begin with
3) Adult day care is over
4) No more (or less) H1B nonsense

This week a former AmEx engineering director alleges roles were shifted to India through staffing firms while the company talks about AI readiness.
I'd rather not be right about this one. But here we are.
A year ago yesterday, I wrote: “AI didn’t take your job. Offshoring did.”
A year later, I have even less patience for the corporate explanations.
In 2022, it was overhiring. Then restructuring. Now it’s AI and efficiency. 🙄
Companies are still eliminating positions in the US while building out similar capabilities offshore…
Of course AI is changing the workforce. But it’s also become a remarkably convenient explanation for decisions that were being made long before generative AI entered the conversation.
I’d pay considerably more attention to the workforce data than the corporate narratives.

🚨 BREAKING: WHITE HOUSE CLEARS MAJOR OVERHAUL OF THE PERM GREEN CARD PROGRAM.
The Department of Labor is preparing changes to a system that hasn’t been comprehensively updated in more than 20 years.
The proposed reforms target:
• Recruitment of American workers.
• Layoffs involving U.S. employees.
• Discriminatory hiring practices.
• Employer recordkeeping requirements.
This comes just weeks after eight major technology companies were suspended from PERM.
The proposal still needs to be published and finalized.
But the administration is now moving beyond targeting individual companies toward potentially changing how every employer proves it couldn’t find a qualified American worker.

🚨 DESANTIS CALLS ON OTHER STATES TO STOP H-1B HIRING AT PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES.
Florida already prohibits its 12 public universities from making new H-1B hires through January 5, 2027.
Now DeSantis wants other states to follow.
His comments came in response to criticism of universities supporting OPT and H-1B programs while American graduates struggle to find jobs.
Meanwhile, a new investigation found Oregon State lost 23% of its computer science enrollment in just one year.
Universities are generally exempt from the H-1B lottery cap.
