I strongly condemn the Russian drone attack on the train station in Dnipro, which caused many casualties. Our thoughts go out to the families of the victims, to those injured and to the people of Ukraine. This terrible act underlines the urgency of international efforts towards a just, comprehensive and lasting peace. (BK)

Deeply saddened by the news of the accident involving an EUFOR Althea helicopter crash near Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Our sincere sympathies go to the crew, their families and loved ones, and the fellow servicemen and women of EUFOR Althea and the Italian Armed Forces.
Our thoughts remain with our colleagues, particularly those awaiting news, as search efforts continue and the circumstances of the accident are investigated.

A superb investigative report by @Reuters on the global trustee network that has let the Iranian regime restock its missiles and drones through a war and a naval blockade.
I had the opportunity to review the underlying data. It is one of the clearest pictures yet of the regime's trustee operation, specifically the side that feeds its military.
• More than 5,000 agencies named "MOD" plus a number, and all at the Defense Ministry's Tehran address.
• 97% of shipments reviewed were settled "without currency transfer": trustees abroad pay the supplier from oil money that never touches Iran.
• Phone numbers of 91 agencies match Bank Sepah records of IRGC personnel.
This is the complete ecosystem of the Iranian military's trade business exposed by @GavinFinchRtrs, @MichaelMag65136, @allisonmartell and @delruemarine1
(1/4) A thread on some key elements of this report.

Agreed.
What concerns me about Serbian intellectuals' reaction to Martens' analysis is their expectation that journalists and analysts should subordinate their criticism to the political interests of Serbia's democratic transition.
Before the elections, we were told that discussing nationalism within the student movement would undermine its chances of defeating Vucic. Now, the argument is that discussing the topic might jeopardize the consolidation of democratic government. The question is: until when do we need to postpone the criticism?
The emotional investment of Serbian liberal academia and civil society is something we ought to understand, but we do not need to remain blind to the fact that a change in leader does not mean the defeat of the ideology that sustained his rule.
If Serbian nationalism survives the political alternation, it will very quickly acquire new democratic legitimacy and continue to shape Serbia's relations with its neighbors, causing instability in the region.

I believe one should temper expectations for swift shifts in the basic policies of 🇷🇸. Restoration of rule of law, media freedom and basic democracy are obvious priorities, and should have strong 🇪🇺 support, but where 🇷🇸 is heading on foreign policy, 🇪🇺 aspirations and regional issues remains to be seen.
The first reactions from Brussels to the results of the early parliamentary elections in Serbia stressed the need to improve the rule of law.

I just had a good phone conversation with Dr Ilija Srdanović.
I congratulated him on the Student List’s election victory in Serbia.
The priority now is to establish Parliament and the new government without delay, through a peaceful transition and in full respect of the election results.
Serbia’s place is in the European Union. We stand ready to support its European path, with a clear focus on the reforms the Serbian people have called for: the rule of law, the fight against corruption and media freedom.
It was an honour to celebrate #Austria‘s national day in #Baku w Amb. @GurbanovaNargiz & reaffirm our strong bilateral ties with a strong potential for further cooperation, also in view of our #UNSC membership from next year trend.az/azerbaijan/politics…

The main reason why NATO enlargement happened was because of Russia.
The main reason why Ukraine was militarily attacked was the lack of NATO membership.
The main reason why Sweden and Finland joined NATO after hundreds of years respectively decades of neutrality was also Russia.
🚨 Putin plans to use Ukraine peace talks to push NATO back to its 1997 military posture
According to The Telegraph, the Kremlin wants to force NATO to scale back its military presence in Europe to levels seen before Eastern European countries joined the Alliance.
This could mean demanding the withdrawal of NATO forces from Poland, the Baltic states, and Finland.
That is why Moscow is pushing for European countries to participate in negotiations over Ukraine. Diplomatic sources cited by The Telegraph say Putin wants to turn talks about ending the war into negotiations over the entire European security architecture.
The issue may also have been discussed during Putin's three-hour meeting with Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg.
However, European countries have previously rejected the Kremlin's demands to reduce NATO's military presence on its eastern flank.

An overlooked positive side effect of the Serbian parliamentary election today is that Ivica Dačić, the former spokesman of Slobodan Milošević’s Socialist Party of Serbia, appears to have been voted out of parliament, along with his party. One of the darkest figures in Serbian history is thus leaving the stage, hopefully for good.

Today, the people of Serbia turned out in record numbers to shape their country’s future.
Congratulations to the Student List on its victory in the parliamentary elections.
We stand ready to support reforms on the rule of law, media freedom, the fight against corruption and strong democratic institutions, and to work together to advance Serbia’s future in the European Union.
