My first history of science course in grad school and second history of science course ever! Brings me back to good times w/ @aAcciavatti_sc and @mmfajardoh and others. Can't wait to see the final verdict on when & how we're allowed to call historical figures "charlatans."

Last Friday, I found a startling piece of historical evidence that shed new light on the meaning of the Confederate monument on the @OleMissRebels campus. I'm grateful to have had the chance to write about it for @TheAtlantic. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Supporting my students and researching and writing about the past *is* my job. That is what "being a professor and teaching" is all about.
At what point do you get back to being a professor and teaching? Personally I have friends in the sociology department that are working toward reconciliation. Shouldn’t that be the focus? Honest question!

The greatest lie ever told was that "a majority of Mississippians" supported slavery, secession, the Confederacy, and the Civil War. The majority of Mississippians in the 1860s were black. If you can get everyone to swallow that whopper, everything else is small potatoes.

The guide to governing “public” institutions in MS: a small circle of cronies makes decisions in secret deliberations and then falsely claims the authority of popular support earned through democratic and open processes that never actually existed.
