First LLM paper I've read w/ '68 slogans (les structures ne descendent pas dans la rue) + Eco as a semiotician, but very much agreed - this in AI & Society was worth my time, a helpful pivot towards seriously examining LLMs as the "automation of language" link.springer.com/content/pd…
I really enjoyed reading this article by Pasquinelli. He argues that “AI is a model of the social manifold,” which I think we often don’t take into account when discussing artificial intelligence. As if we are trying to recreate the intelligence of a single human being. We tend++

Stavros finally achieved the dream of being Chinese.
Lol, just read this in Chinese: “The world has moved so fast these past two years. We all assumed AI and robots would be washing our dishes, mopping our floors, and scrubbing our toilets, so we'd be free to write poetry, paint, and gaze at the stars. Instead, it's the other way around — AI is busy writing the poetry and making the art, and I'm still doing the dishes and mopping the floors myself.”

Locking down the whole internet for a week because of a Cyber Event would be so kino. I think the 1933 Bank Holiday serves as a close enough precedent. Just something to keep an eye on throughout the next year or so.

Today at work some kids asked me if there was any pope or king with the number 67 on their name and i looked up for them and there's at least one monarch, Heinrich LXVII, Prince of Reuss, who coincidentally died in 1867. They went crazy over this and asked to see a photo of him

why do early modern witch-hunts do a pretty good job of predicting early industrialization and present-day high GDP

In (human) practice, a group of nouns is (often) functionally a pattern. "Metaphors we live by."

You have to be a little flexible with how you define “similar.” “Up” is “good” and “forward” is “future” because that’s where our head is positioned.

Maybe we just have to lean into the gender essentialism: a store that only sells “A Centaur Keeps Me Chained to His Water Heater” and “History of Farm Equipment During the English Civil War” and put them on opposite sides of every aisle.

Extremely Higher Order Theory of consciousness
We have never seen a model do this before, but GLM-5.3 sometimes reasons (unprompted) about how its current actions could become training data and impact its future self. 🧵

*taps sign* Btw CRWV, NBIS, and IREN face a combined $72B funding gap in 2027 (CapEx - Op CF). If capital markets are closed to them, ~$41B of NVDA purchases could be at risk, or ~11% of NVDA’s consensus DC revenue. We’re about to find out if NVDA is really capacity constrained, or if demand was reliant on a mix of cheap financing and customers padding their orders to secure the best possible allocations, like asset managers do. My guess is the latter and that we’re past peak CapEx. Therefore growth and inflation expectations will moderate, bringing down Treasury yields and AI capex stocks.
The AI buildout increasingly depends on lenders financing investments that LLM devs and hyperscalers may be pursuing for strategic rather than purely financial reasons. Strong compute demand and rising GPU rental rates doesn’t mean the returns on incremental capacity are improving, or even stable (see token prices). Lenders are increasingly questioning returns on incremental AI infrastructure investment. Financing costs have risen sharply (see GSUCHS30) and are likely to continue climbing once issuance resumes in earnest in 1H27. This will likely constrain the buildout even as AI adoption accelerates. For these reasons I am bearish on AI CapEx beneficiaries and bullish on bonds.
