1) Create an open source library that is 3 KB
2) Library slowly becomes popular
3) Progressively fix bugs and edge cases
4) Library is now 100 KB
5) People don't realize why so they make a new library
6) goto 2

this is what’s confusing to me. there are no rules saying you can’t exclusively use js dev tooling and libraries as they existed in 2005. it’s all still available but not many people are limiting themselves to them for some reason. super weird, if they are easier and good enough

The more your tests resemble the way your software is used, the more confidence they can give you.

So, web components
• break a11y
• break progressive enhancement (no SSR, broken without JS)
• don't work with SVG
• share a global namespace instead of being modular
• ...
Imagine how much tedious moralising we'd see if JS frameworks shipped with similar limitations
#a11y issue that I experience daily: "sign up for our newsletter" popups. I haven't found a tool yet that can find the clickable area around the little "x" or "no thanks" button. It's usually there for the "signup" button. Dark pattern or incompetence?

... we all know *why* js bundles are big, right? It’s not frameworks. It’s product/business requirements.

People,
If this is you pushing to production on a Friday, you have no business pushing to production AT ALL. Period.
Don't be scared off by cute giphys.
Write proper tests, prepare a back out plan, execute a phased rollout, and push to prod whenever you damn well please.

Even frontend is a distributed systems problem. It always has been, actually (cc @wycats).
But when you want your UI to work offline, that’s when its true distributed nature comes front & center. – at San Francisco, CA
