Deservedly scathing op-ed by the NYT:
“If Democrats retake both houses of Congress, and more state governments than they now control, it will tell the world that Mr. Trump does not represent most Americans. It will demonstrate that a country that starts to slide toward autocracy can move back to normalcy, as happened in Hungary this spring. Most important, it will create a desperately needed check on Mr. Trump during his final two years in office.
…
In a 21-month span, he has done more harm to democracy and the rule of law than any other president in the modern era and perhaps longer than that. He has broken his oath to defend the Constitution by trying to rewrite it on his own. He has refused to honor Congress’s power of the purse and misused national security laws for political ends. He has defied federal court orders on Medicaid funding, deportation orders and more. He has dismantled the Justice Department’s legacy as an impartial enforcer of federal law, turning it into an instrument of retribution against his adversaries while canceling investigations into his allies. He has appointed inept sycophants to oversee crucial government functions, including law enforcement, national defense and public health. He has sought to disenfranchise large numbers of voters, claiming fraud that cannot be found, and championed an extreme new approach to partisan gerrymandering. He has physically besmirched the White House by demolishing the East Wing and financing a garish renovation with donations from wealthy allies.”

Microsoft backs private AI companies worth a combined $2.09 trillion and the biggest isn’t OpenAI. Anthropic leads at $965B, followed by OpenAI at $852B. Beyond those two, its bets stretch from AI chips and voice agents to self-driving cars and humanoid robots.

30% took Microsoft’s last exit deal. This one is bigger. About 60,000 staff qualify, versus roughly 8,750 in spring. thenextweb.com/news/microsof…

This is huge: @Microsoft is willing to depart with a portion of 60,000 of their employees who have experience level of 70 or below (junior to mid level)
Qualifying employees must decide whether to take the offer in early December, and those participating will leave on Dec. 31.
I believe that opportunities elsewhere and inaction inside companies will make a lot of talent movement in the next few years. Poor judgement can leave companies stranded without good talent. My 30+ years of experience in this industry makes me say confidently that companies should try their best to retain and retrain their workforce rather than lay off people and then hire people with newer skills.
This move affects around 27% of Microsoft’s total workforce of 223,000 people. It’s given that a subset of this pool will accept this offer.
In April, $MSFT announced a first-ever voluntary retirement program that around 7% of U.S. employees were eligible for. Then, in July, Microsoft announced plans to lay off 4,800 employees.

Nothing exposes the Trump-led Republican Party's disregard for competence quite like their reckless backing of the woefully unqualified Darline Graham, the political neophyte running to defend the seat of her late brother, Lindsey Graham.
Huge kudos to former South Carolina Governors David Beasley and Jim Hodges for crossing party lines to jointly endorse Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews. Their rare bipartisan show of unity sends a powerful pro-democracy message to Trump and the fascist far-right faction of the party.
