Teachers, did you know that Lynx coding is free for Canadians thanks to federal funding through the CanCode initiative? Lynx is a text-based coding program in many languages, including French, Anishinaabe, Mi'kmaw, Kanien'kéha, and Oji-Cree. Lakehead University's research team is working with Indigenous community partners to explore how incorporating coding can help us better understand Anishinaabe and Métis ways of knowing mathematics differently from a Western European conception of mathematics. The software allows students to explore mathematical concepts inherent in beadwork or weaving, such as computational thinking, patterning and algebraic reasoning, proportional reasoning, and geometric transformations. The current project will extend these previous explorations and also include other technologies, such as birchbark basket making. #coding #mathematics #IndigenousKnowledge #CanCode #LakeheadU

Even if Omicron is less virulent than Delta, the massive number of new cases still results in hospitalization & puts pressure on a healthcare system that was stretched prior to this wave.
Covid-related personnel absences (via infection & exposure) further exacerbate the problem.
WTH @fordnation So much for protecting schools and the most vulnerable. @CP24
The Ford government is cancelling required reporting of COVID cases in schools & daycare.
And they snuck this thru in a memo issued on NYE.
Accountability? Transparency? Not in Doug Ford Ontario.

The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.
