A grim indictment of a country that boasts of being a nuclear-armed military power with a supposedly booming economy, yet struggles to provide its poorest citizens with basic dignity and necessities. In recent history, Imran Khan was among the few leaders who introduced tangible welfare initiatives for the underprivileged. Yet much of that progress has been undermined or reversed under the current government, whose democratic legitimacy remains deeply contested. While questions are being raised about extravagant private jets and the misuse of public resources, the dream of building a genuine welfare state seems increasingly distant. Meanwhile, Imran Khan remains behind bars after challenging a military-dominated political order accused of manipulating elections, undermining civilian supremacy and diverting national resources towards entrenched elites. What kind of national greatness is measured by nuclear weapons, military might and VIP jets while ordinary citizens struggle to survive? A nation's true strength lies not in the privileges of its rulers, but in the dignity, prosperity and freedom of its people.

But “Failed Marshal” Asim Munir and the likes of Maryam Nawaz may never acknowledge this uncomfortable truth. Doing so would require a conscience, genuine introspection and the moral courage to confront the suffering inflicted under their watch. How can those entrusted with protecting the people justify allegations of killing citizens demanding their fundamental rights, destroying homes and treating entire communities as enemies of the state? Look at Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK. The recurring allegations of repression, enforced disappearances, excessive force and collective punishment demand accountability, not official denials and propaganda. A state that measures its greatness in weapons, military ranks and the luxuries of its rulers, while failing to protect the lives and dignity of its citizens, has fundamentally misunderstood the meaning of national strength. History will not judge these rulers by the power they accumulated, but by how they exercised it—and by the suffering they refused to acknowledge.

AJK: REPORTS OF FIRING AND CLASHES AS ANGER SPREADS TO MUZAFFARABAD Reports from Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), describe clashes between protesters and Pakistani Rangers following the crackdown on Rawalakot’s months-long rights movement. Students and young people have reportedly taken to the streets in solidarity with Rawalakot. Accounts describe burning tyres and roadblocks in Upper Plate and Chela Bandi, shuttered businesses, and confrontations with security forces. There are serious allegations of live ammunition and tear gas being used against demonstrators, alongside arrests reportedly involving minors. These allegations demand urgent, independent investigation. In Rawalakot, Rangers and Frontier Corps personnel reportedly seized the bus terminal, where women had maintained a prolonged sit-in. Thousands of protesters are said to remain around Umar Farooq Chowk despite continuing security operations. Reports allege nine deaths and 26 injuries during the latest three-day crackdown, and a cumulative toll of 155 deaths—including 17 women and a child, Shayan Azhar—during approximately 150 days of unrest. These figures, and allegations of drone strikes and RPG use, require independent verification. The authorities must publish casualty records, disclose the whereabouts of detainees, ensure medical access and admit independent journalists and observers. A rights movement cannot be resolved through collective punishment. Clearing protest sites by force does not resolve the grievances that brought people there. آزاد جموں و کشمیر: راولاکوٹ میں کریک ڈاؤن کے بعد مظفرآباد میں بھی جھڑپوں اور فائرنگ کی اطلاعات پاکستان کے زیرِ انتظام جموں و کشمیر (AJK) کے دارالحکومت مظفرآباد سے مظاہرین اور پاکستانی رینجرز کے درمیان جھڑپوں کی اطلاعات سامنے آ رہی ہیں۔ راولاکوٹ کی کئی ماہ سے جاری حقوق کی تحریک کے خلاف کارروائی کے بعد احتجاج دارالحکومت تک پھیل گیا ہے۔ اطلاعات کے مطابق طلبہ اور نوجوان راولاکوٹ کے مظاہرین سے اظہارِ یکجہتی کے لیے سڑکوں پر نکلے ہیں۔ اپر پلیٹ اور چہلہ بانڈی میں ٹائر جلانے، راستے بند ہونے، کاروباری مراکز کی بندش اور سکیورٹی اہلکاروں کے ساتھ آمنے سامنے تصادم کی خبریں ہیں۔ مظاہرین پر براہِ راست گولیاں چلانے، آنسو گیس کے استعمال اور کم عمر بچوں سمیت متعدد افراد کی گرفتاریوں کے سنگین الزامات سامنے آئے ہیں۔ ان کی فوری اور آزادانہ تحقیقات ضروری ہیں۔ راولاکوٹ میں رینجرز اور فرنٹیئر کور نے مبینہ طور پر اُس بس ٹرمینل کا کنٹرول سنبھال لیا ہے جہاں خواتین طویل عرصے سے دھرنا دیے بیٹھی تھیں۔ اطلاعات کے مطابق جاری کارروائیوں کے باوجود ہزاروں مظاہرین عمر فاروق چوک کے گرد موجود ہیں۔ موصولہ اطلاعات میں گزشتہ تین روز کے دوران نو افراد کی ہلاکت اور ۲۶ کے زخمی ہونے کا دعویٰ کیا گیا ہے۔ تقریباً ۱۵۰ روز سے جاری احتجاج کے دوران مجموعی طور پر ۱۵۵ اموات، جن میں ۱۷ خواتین اور بچہ شیان اظہر شامل ہیں، کی اطلاعات بھی دی گئی ہیں۔ ان اعدادوشمار اور ڈرون حملوں و آر پی جی کے استعمال کے الزامات کی آزادانہ تصدیق ضروری ہے۔ حکام ہلاک اور زخمی ہونے والوں کا مصدقہ ریکارڈ جاری کریں، زیرِ حراست افراد کے بارے میں معلومات دیں، زخمیوں تک طبی امداد کی رسائی یقینی بنائیں اور آزاد صحافیوں و مبصرین کو علاقے میں جانے دیں۔ حقوق کی تحریک کا جواب اجتماعی سزا نہیں ہو سکتا۔ طاقت سے احتجاجی مقامات خالی کرانے سے وہ شکایات ختم نہیں ہوتیں جنہوں نے لوگوں کو سڑکوں پر آنے پر مجبور کیا۔ فوجی قیادت کے زیرِ اثر حکمران بندوبست کو اپنے فیصلوں کا جواب دینا ہوگا۔ آزاد جموں و کشمیر کے عوام تحفظ، عزت اور بامعنی سیاسی مذاکرات کے حق دار ہیں۔ #آزادکشمیر #راولاکوٹ #مظفرآباد #انسانی_حقوق
