Good for you, Daniel. Word of advice: Being this arrogant so early, when your actual performance are yet to be met and measured, is not a good look nor start. Behave like and adult for the party you present.

It blows my mind that out of about 45 million eligible voters in South Africa only about 29 million bother to register and out of that about 15 million actually bother to vote. Which means the vast majority of voting age citizens - 30 million people - simply stay out of it. Do they just not care? Do they live in an alternate world where politics has zero meaning or bearing on their lives? Anyone who votes at all is clearly in a minority group, so what world does this large silent majority of non-voters live in? Apart from foreigners I literally never even encounter anyone after an election who doesn't have the ink mark. So where even are these 30 million people? I'm genuinely curious.

Imagine hating yourself so much that you keep returning to the same toxic ex, expecting a different version of the same person to emerge…. As they say, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Replying to @SiphoMadyo
I know this is a wild concept, but generally if you want electricity, you need to pay for it. Been doing it for a while now, you should try it.

Last night Mngeni Mayor Chris Pappas was one of the last to leave the election centre. He walked around with a black bag helping the cleaners to clean up the venue. He is a gem of a person. DA please look after him well.

"You are not Comrades. You are not Councillors!" 🇿🇦👮‍♂️ KZN Police Commissioner General Mkhwanazi "Some of you are greeting people with 'Viva!' and 'Amandla!'" 😂😂😂🤦‍♀️ "Are you ward councillors? Do you hand out food parcels?" "No, General!" "Good. Because this is SAPS, not a municipality! 😂😂😂And let me make this even clearer," "You are not a comrade." He locked eyes with the squad. "A criminal doesn't check your political membership before opening fire. If you want to sing struggle songs, join a choir😂😂🤦‍♀️. While you wear this uniform, your only political party is the Constitution! Now get in your vans and go to work!" The courtyard cleared in five seconds flat. 🫡🔥 #SAPS #Mkhwanazi #KZN

Both @helenzille and @HermanMashaba have been telling us how important it is for Joburg to be fixed. But will they put aside their differences and help bring Joburg back to life?

Oil has dropped ~16–18% from its recent highs. Brent is now back under $95, WTI under $88. South Africa… when are you adjusting the fuel price? We’ve been paying the high-price version for weeks. The next official adjustment can’t come soon enough. #FuelPrice #SouthAfrica #OilPrices

In 2017, 21-year-old Stellenbosch University student Hannah Cornelius was carjacked after dropping off a friend in the early hours of the morning. She was brutally gang-raped, stabbed in the neck, and mu*dered when a 37.5-kilogram rock was dropped on her head. The details of what happened are deeply disturbing. On May 27, 2017, Hannah and her friend, 22-year-old Cheslin Marsh, were sitting in her grandmother’s blue-and-white Volkswagen Citi Golf outside his residence in Stellenbosch, South Africa, saying their goodbyes. Four men approached the vehicle and threatened them with a sharpened screwdriver and a knife through the open window. Vernon Witbooi, Geraldo Parsons, and Eben van Niekerk forced their way into the car. At approximately 3:40 a.m., the vehicle drove away with all five people inside. Cheslin was forced into the boot while the group drove to a drug dealer’s home, where they smoked crystal meth before continuing through Stellenbosch. At 4:34 a.m., CCTV footage captured Witbooi entering a petrol station and attempting to use Cheslin’s stolen bank card. The PIN he had been given was incorrect. Near Kraaifontein, the men stopped and dragged Cheslin from the boot. They forced him onto the ground, beat him over the head with bricks, and left him unconscious. Hannah was taken to an isolated paintball range, where she was gang-r*ped by multiple men over several hours. She was then driven to Groenhof Farm, stabbed in the neck, and k*lled when a 37.5-kilogram rock was dropped onto her head twice. Her body was discovered later that morning. Cheslin eventually regained consciousness and managed to walk to the nearest home he could find. He survived, but was left permanently deaf in one ear. Witbooi and Parsons were arrested that afternoon following a police chase. Van Niekerk and Nashville Julius were arrested the following day. In November 2018, the Western Cape High Court sentenced Witbooi, Parsons, and van Niekerk to two life sentences each for Hannah’s r*pe and mu*der. Julius received 22 years for robbery and kidnapping. At the sentencing, Hannah’s father, Willem Cornelius, spoke words that captured the devastation experienced by her family: “Our family died on the day Hannah died.” Willem died on December 9, 2022. Hannah’s mother, Anna, had been found dead in the South Atlantic Ocean in March 2018. Her death was ruled accidental. And Hannah’s younger brother, who has autism, continued asking when his sister was coming home. A young woman’s life was stolen in an act of unimaginable violence. Her family was left carrying a grief that no sentence could ever undo. Hannah deserved a future filled with love, laughter, and possibility. May her memory never be forgotten.

South Africa: Farm torture: “The worst was when they started cutting my wife” Les Brett (67) says the worst part was not what happened to him: “It was when they started cutting my wife’s nipples, just to cause pain. She’s a very, very strong woman. A good woman.” He and his wife, Natasha (68), have lived for 13 years on a farm at Broederstroom, near Hartbeespoort Dam, where he is involved in wildlife conservation. That is why he has guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle. “They put the AK-47’s barrel in my mouth and pulled the trigger, but it didn’t fire,” he says. “It was God’s grace. There’s nothing wrong with my gun. But they didn’t know much about guns, to be honest.” The attackers left with seven of Les’s guns and the couple’s cellphones. Three attackers broke into the house and overpowered the couple. They tied their feet, blindfolded them and tied their arms behind their backs. “But they kept us apart, so most of the time we could only hear what was happening to the other one,” says Natasha. The motive for the attack? “There were only two reasons. They wanted to get into the safe, and they wanted cash,” says Les. He says it was as if they knew he owned firearms. “That’s when they started assaulting my wife in front of me. But once they had the keys, they got it into their heads that we keep cash.” The couple can’t remember exactly how long the torture lasted, but estimate it was between two and three hours. “It’s difficult, because you’re in so much pain that time passes more slowly,” says Natasha. Photo caption: Les and Natasha Brett before the attack. (Supplied) Les and Natasha are already back home, but their injuries are still serious. “They slapped me and cut the clothes off my body. Exactly like in the movies, as if there’s a mafia above them giving them instructions,” she says. She also believes that at times it felt as if they were simply taking out their frustrations in anger. “You could see the adrenaline and the rage in their eyes. They also acted as if they weren’t coordinated among themselves.” In the middle of the attack, one of them told her: “We’re not here to steal cables.” The couple’s bank cards were left untouched. “I even offered to drive to an ATM, but they didn’t want to,” she says. Natasha also says she was nearly raped twice. “But they’re like children in a toy shop. When the safe opened, he forgot about me.” Natasha suspects that if they had not handed over the keys to the safe, the attackers would have killed Les. “It was like a negotiation.” Photo caption: One of Les’s wounds. (Supplied) Her lips are now badly swollen, there are bruises behind her ears, and the attackers almost dislocated her shoulder. “They tied my hands so tightly that the blood circulation was cut off, and then there were the rags they kept pushing into your mouth...” This later tore her frenulum (the tissue that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth). Both of them were tortured with boiling water, but it is not yet clear how serious the burns are. Les’s injuries are worse than his wife’s. “They hit him over the head with bolt cutters. His face was very swollen, the white of his eye was red and full of blood, and he can’t hear out of his left ear. His eardrum is burst,” she says. Natasha remembers that it later went quiet where she was sitting alone. “I think they realised we had nothing. When I thought it was quiet enough, I struggled for 15 minutes to untie my feet,” she says. There was a knife on the table, which they used to cut each other loose. “The strangest thing is that they let our dogs out, and even threw their pellets in for them to eat,” she says. They have boerboel and Rhodesian ridgeback crosses, as well as a terrier, “and they didn’t even bark.” Les thanked all the services that helped them after the attack. “We can’t complain at all,” he says. Leilani Basson of Bush Babes Conservation Adventures has worked with Les for 14 years. “That something like this should happen to a man like him is tragic. That it should happen to someone so devoted to conservation.” She describes him as “a man who is always ready, a real army man who stays out in the veld with the wild animals because he loves them.” “He can tell you about anything, from history to facts about the soil and the grass. He’s a walking encyclopaedia of the veld!” Les also runs the Dung Beetle Bush School, which aims to teach children and women more about the Bushveld. It is also part of an anti-poaching unit that Les runs together with several other organisations. The police are investigating a case of house robbery. No one has been arrested yet, says police spokesperson Sergeant Kelebogile Morake. Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, the provincial police commissioner in North West, condemned the attack. “It is concerning that criminals continue to target vulnerable members of our communities in the safety of their own homes. We condemn such acts of violence and intimidation in the strongest terms.” Adams said the police would “intensify efforts” to make sure the attackers are arrested. Anyone with information that can help the police investigation can contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Gregory Kwadi, on 082 373 9636. Source: Desiré Nortjé, Netwerk24

The incident happened on Monday, 2 November 2026, with police confirming that they are investigating a double murder following the fatal shooting. According to police, officers received a report of a shooting at the off-ramp and rushed to the scene, where they discovered a Toyota Urban Cruiser riddled with several bullet holes in the driver's door. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene by emergency services. No arrests have been made, the motive remains unknown, and the identity of the male victim has not yet been established in the available reports. Following her death, Spangenberg Attorneys Inc issued a heartfelt tribute to Meintjies, describing her as a fellow legal practitioner and former university colleague with whom members of the firm had shared lecture halls, ambitions and dreams. The firm condemned violence against legal practitioners, saying no attorney should fear for their life while representing clients or standing up for justice. It extended condolences to her loved ones, describing her death as a loss to the entire legal community.
