Both the KZN Premier, Ntuli, and President, Ramaphosa, have the constitutional duty to protect our province from opportunists who take advantage of the legitimate concerns around illegal immigration. The deployment of soldiers is meant to achieve this end. March and March has failed to, at the very least, condemn criminals in their midst. Their criticism of the deployment is irresponsible and must be rejected. KZN is an asset that needs to be preserved for our children. In the same vein, government must accelerate its eradication of illegal immigration or the deployment will be seen as protection for the current situation.

[WATCH] President @CyrilRamaphosa arrives at the Bana Pele Leadership Summit 2026 in Sandton, Gauteng, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic of South Africa, Dr Tshepo Motsepe.
The President was received by the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube; the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Dr Makgabo Reginah Mhaule; and the Director-General of the Department of Basic Education, Mr Hubert Mathanzima Mweli.
Held under the theme “From Blueprint to Movement,” the two-day summit brings together stakeholders from across society to accelerate progress towards universal access to quality early learning by 2030.

One year ago, the inaugural Bana Pele Leadership Summit united South Africa’s early childhood development (ECD) sector around a shared vision: universal access to quality early learning by 2030.
The summit gave rise to the Shared Blueprint, outlining 23 actions to strengthen the ECD sector, expand inclusive access for children with disabilities, create safe learning spaces in communities, and mobilise funding to support ECD entrepreneurs.
Tomorrow, we reunite to reflect on progress, showcase what these commitments have set in motion, and renew our collective efforts to ensure every child has access to quality early learning and the opportunity to thrive.

When we made the decision to reorientate the basic education system towards the foundations of learning in 2024; it was just a strategy on paper. An idea. Backed up by evidence of what was happening in countries with strong education systems.
Tomorrow, we convene the second Bana Pele Leadership Summit - that brings together government, corporate SA, civil society and the ECD sector together.
I believe in setting benchmarks; with clear timelines. Tomorrow is an opportunity to tell South Africans how we have moved from 23 undertakings on paper to implementation.
I really believe that this work will undo the education injustice in our country. Ensuring that the circumstances of a child’s birth will not determine their success in school and beyond.
Oh man. Advocating for this country’s children is a responsibility I do not take lightly. 🇿🇦📚
