This is what it takes. If you are a woman in the arts, especially an Irish woman, and you haven’t said anything about the witch hunt of Róisín Murphy, if you’re still staying quiet, hoping it’ll all blow over like it did when this happened to other women and it didn’t affect you, that you’ll be safe, STOP! Sit down, think. You can’t believe that any of this is ok. Are you going to turn a blind eye like generations of women did when they sent their daughters to mother & baby homes and when they came home without their stolen grandchildren, when the Magdalenes were marched through towns with a Garda escort, while teenage girls died on grave slabs and in fields along with their newborns? A culture of silence when we see wrongdoing like this, the fruits of misogyny like this, destroys us all. The vilification and condemnation of women who merely speak out, especially in the arts, destroys us all. There can be no bystanders when freedom of speech and expression and truth itself are under sustained assault like this. An incredible female artist is under attack for speaking up. From a purely selfish point of view, how sure are you that the holders of the scold’s bridle will pass by your house when your time comes? Please, please don’t wait any longer. #IStandWithRoisinMurphy #Unbridled #HitParade
