Chinese researchers have reportedly demonstrated a swarm of 116 autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) operating simultaneously, setting a Guinness World Record.
The TH-618 vehicles reportedly operated for approximately 34 minutes and covered nearly 500 m (1,640 ft) along a designated route while maintaining formation and coordinating their movements with minimal operator control.
The TH-618 is approximately 61.5 cm (2 ft) long and is reportedly capable of operating for more than eight hours and traveling up to 30 km (18.6 miles).
Underwater swarms face communication and navigation challenges because GPS is unavailable underwater and radio signals are rapidly attenuated. The reported demonstration involved local navigation and distributed coordination between the vehicles.
Such systems could reportedly be used for seabed surveying, object searches and inspection of underwater infrastructure.

On Thursday, an airstrike killed 3 a mom, a dad, and their 2-year-old son on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
Our visual investigation (drawing on photos/videos from the site, satellite imagery, weapon fragments, and a crater size estimate, analyzed by weapons experts @Easybakeovensz @fredgrs) indicates the U.S. dropped one of the largest bombs in regular use by its military on the residential neighborhood: the Mark-84, a 2,000-pound bomb.
The choice to use that type of munition in such a densely populated area is “very difficult to reconcile with” the obligation under international humanitarian law to take all feasible precautions to minimize civilian harm, @tomdannenbaum told us.

The Israeli Army recovered Hezbollah devices labeled “J-AHMINE” that resemble the Iranian “YM-J-AHM2” anti-helicopter bounding landmine.
Upon activation by a wired connection or radio receiver, the mine body jumps up to 250–300 meters and detonates, scattering 8 mm fragments.

This peculiar mortar shell fragment was recovered by an AFNM fighter in Dera district, North Shewa zone. Its red base is stamped CHEDDITTE 12 which is an Italian shotgun hull manufacturer. Is the Ethiopian army buying components from Italy? There are also OLA militants who launched a large scale abduction in Dera since June 16. I wonder if it was dropped from a drone? @criticalthreats
