Secularism promised progress but here we are having to go all the way to the Supreme Court to argue that being a women isn't merely a feeling, nor should we allow the amputation & mutilation of physically healthy children by anyone.
On Wednesday, a massively important case is going before the Supreme Court to decide whether states can protect children from gender ideology. Top-flight lawyer Erin Hawley explains the stakes at @WNGdotorg. wng.org/opinions/a-states-ri…

I think Singal is representative of a lot of liberals in that he sort of concedes the necessity of immigration law in the abstract, but finds the actual act of deportation to be shocking and cruel unless it occurs under impossible to satisfy circumstances. Immigration advocates make these circumstances impossible, in the same way advocates have made a clean death penalty impossible so what remains to be incompetently administered provokes public sympathy.
Replying to @MrAndyNgo
so your understanding of how this works is if the government thinks you defrauded the US and you don't have legal status here, you should be deported to a country you have no connection to and just dropped there with no money?

We believe access to capable open-source cyber models is our constitutional right as Americans under the 2nd Amendment. It is our duty as technologists and patriots to help protect the digital infrastructure that powers the world's largest economy. As such, we’re serving our cyber models β€œat-cost”, in US data centers only, with ZDR enabled by default. We do not plan to make money serving these models. If you run a company that is considering how to best protect against cybercrime, reach out to me or @atbeme. We’d be happy to advise. KYC required. Apply below.

Again, legacy media might say that non-citizen voting is extremely rare, and it might be! But the largest state in the country is happily admitting that they have absolutely no way of knowing how widespread it is, and frankly, they don't care even a little
Stunning admission by California during yesterday’s Ninth Circuit hearing. California admitted they do nothing to check the citizenship status of voters and will count the illegal ballots of noncitizens who vote. This is why we’re seeking an emergency order. We cannot allow California to dilute legal votes in the upcoming election. Judge: You agree that if a non-citizen votes and we don’t stop it now, that vote will be counted, correct? California: That’s absolutely correct.

Ya'll, this is nuts. Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real. They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families. cwbchicago.com/2026/10/buckt…

Quantifying the Future This is what a $2 trillion economy will look like by 2040… + 1x port facility with 3x8km lay down area + 1x robot fab plant producing 100 bots / hr + 1x 1GW datacenter running inference + 1x 3GW nuclear power station = 2 million robots labouring 24/7 We know enough today to model the thermodynamics and the market economics of such a site already. The numbers above are the ballpark numbers you end up with, feel free to challenge or change for your own assumptions. Embodiment is the ceiling for both the thermodynamics and economics, as compute (and intelligence) pretty much trends towards zero under Moore’s Law. Assuming a robot is 500W of Newtonian motion, as humanoids are, then 2,000,000 robots working 24/7 is 1GW of demand for the robots’ actuators. Let’s also assume a 1GW datacenter is required for inference for 2m robots, supervised by a central monolithic superintelligence. That’s 2GW total. Then for the sack of maintenance and replacement, we assume 500MW robot fab can produce 100 robots an hour (only ~ 5 ton of product / hr, below a car plant, but includes chips). That’s now 2.5GW site total. For 2,000,000 robots to create $2T of value, each bot needs to add $1m of value each year Seems a lot, but each robot is assumed to work 24/7 and only last ~2 years before it is defunct. 24x365 =8,760 hrs/yr =>$114/hr Seems high at first, but this is a hyper collaborative hive mind marshalled by 2040 superintelligence. $114/hr is what you pay for a car mechanic in 2026, and we are using 2026 dollars here. We can even look at the thermo and economic density and the total footprint of this economy is just tiny. 3x8km is 24km^2 (about 6,000 acres). = 83,000 robots / km^2 = 12m^2 per robot Thermal dissipation = 500W / 12m^2 = 41.7W/m^2 (just 2-3% of solar insolence) Value add density =$1m / 12m^2 =$83k / m^2 <- Wow!! This is $2T GDP from just 8km of coastline Or $500bn of GDP per km of dockside The entire economy can be compressed into the 3km deep dockyard behind the dockside. That’s an economy the size of Australia or Mexico in a land area the size of San Francisco Airport. This is absolutely where the future economy is going, nothing can compete with the capital efficiency of this setup. Nothing. Docks are also crucial as it’s simply not possible to handle the prerequisite volume of cargo and goods for such an economy using anything other than isomodal freight handling systems. If your nation state is interested in adding $2 trillion to its tax base… my DMs are open.

Exactly right. I know some places have codified the right to tinker with your own property but that will need to become more widespread. The real test begins when folks start to reverse engineer their personal vehicle software. Fun times lol.
Reverse Engineer Anything and removing malware/spyware from your own devices sits so close to the cyber guardrails that phrasing or word choice can mean the difference between a refusal and smooth sailing. The rumors that Claude was nerfed started on reddit, and in those threads many comments point out that Claude will still do it if you rephrase it. OpenAI is treating the similar refusals with codex as accidental decision-boundary issues and says they're getting fixed. I expect Anthropic will do the same. It's pointless and counterproductive to try to restrict this. Let people do what they want with their own property. They'll do it anyway with less restrictive models, and fighting it just means losing subscriptions and a resentful public.

Libs never beating the "America Last" rap.
New Gallup poll asks "which values the country most needs today?" Out of a list of 12 values, Republicans put "patriotism" #1, for Dems it ranks dead last - by a lot. Dems say "equality" is most needed, Republicans rank it 11th out of 12.

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

As someone with a portfolio of energized land assets here is what I am seeing: 1. Neoclouds are disorganized and poorly capitalized. Some are definitely better than others however. 2. Hyperscalers are intractable, bureaucratic organizations that take 3 months to do an NDA and want 18mo escrow periods. We built our portfolio by competing against these terms because of our speed and simplicity. The more future assets orgs like ours win, the bigger the problem for the hyperscalers downstream (see 3). 3. There are delays in the existing pipeline that will catch people off guard in 2027. Hyperacalers will (obviously) react by focusing on their own internal compute needs over any third party. If the third party is a model company, they will tell them to go through their model router where they will also take a non-trivial vig. Them telling Ant they have no compute for them (rumored in Ant’s S-1) if true is a huge tell that this is already happening. All of this is to say that it does look like there will be a lot of partially stranded compute and compute sitting in inventory in 2027 than is currently forecasted. This is bought and paid for but effectively underearning (below total cost of capital) or collecting dust. We see this as true for everyone - model companies, hyperscalers, neoclouds except ONE (you can guess which one). This dislocation will benefit two kinds of orgs: the non-bureaucratic big scalers who can build industrial scale quickly and the nimble, well capitalized players feeding them. 2027 will be a turbulent year because it will clear out a bunch of wrong/bad bets. It will also be a consolidation year for a few.

Lots of people forgetting that giant corps essentially shut off the Internet for any customer they felt was insufficiently condemnatory of the Jan 6 riots They hadn't even broken any written rule. They just didn't like them so no Internet for them. Starlink's policy is way more clear and fair.
The reality is this completely devalues Starlink. If one man can arbitrarily shut off your Internet, it's less dependable than your already hit or miss Internet connection.
