Patrick Stewart passed away today. It’s rare for the death of a celebrity to affect me so deeply. When I really think about it, his Captain Picard was a major figure in my life. “Star Trek” as a whole back then, but him in particular. – at Vienna, Austria
I’m truly grateful that I was able to watch this series as a child; it quenched a great thirst within me—a thirst for knowledge, for adventure, for science, and for virtue. I am in tears about his death. – at Vienna, Austria

It’s kinda crazy to me that we melt sand down, clean it to 99.99999% purity, literal wizards have to draw it slowly into an ingot, we cut it, inscribe a hundred billion little on/off switches on it, and when you run electric current through it you can do basic arithmetic, which when you do enough of it can do any math on the planet, and which describes reality well enough that we can teach it the ontological meaning of words and their distance from each other on a high-dimensional space, and if you ask, it can tell you what word comes next and that apparently is powerful enough that if you do it a hundred billion times it’s the smartest thing to ever exist
oh yeah and we use this primarily for email

Sweden is officially ditching mRNA vaccines, and they are not hiding their reasons for doing so.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Misleading. Image text is from a Dutch group (Artsen Collectief), not a Swedish source. Sweden’s regions chose Sanofi’s Nuvaxovid as sole supplier for the 2027/2028 campaign only.
There has been no mRNA ban; Public Health Agency says 2026/2027 mainly uses mRNA Comirnaty.

A personal observation I want to share - I am doing a cloud rendering research for years. And only just now I feel like I can properly ‘see’ them. I can observe them in real world and I know what I am looking at, and notice elements I never saw before.
This genuinely feels like a superpower.
I bet people (shaderers, researchers, and artists) here who follow my work might share the same feeling on their fields?
In this pic of Kitten Space Agency vanilla clouds left, mine - right. Same performance.

YOU'RE BORN. YOU SEE PANTS STYLES GO FROM BAGGY TO SKINNY BACK TO BAGGY EVERY 10 YEARS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. YOU DIE. THE END

This should be getting more attention than it is.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's not already a significantly large group of people out there who don't see anything irregular here.
For the rest: WTF is going on?

Once you understand that the world is full of highly neurotic people who need a doom's day scenario to validate their emotions, it all makes much more sense: Malthusian starvation, pandemic, climate, and now AI. I wish we still had "the devil" to play this part.
See me pitch @shadowmap_org in 90 seconds @bitsandpretzels founders festival. Raw, unprepared and uncut — incl. Q&A 🤙
A great opportunity to learn what Shadowmap has been doing recently and where we stand as a company ☀️ – at Feldkirchen, Deutschland

🚨🚨🚨 Adding 850 nm near-infrared light to indoor LED lighting significantly reduces blood glucose levels by improving mitochondrial function.
A new preprint by Glen Jeffery and colleagues found, using oral glucose tolerance tests AND continuous glucose monitors, "subjects exposed to standard LEDs had significantly increased blood sugars, while those exposed to lamps with added 850nm had significantly reduced blood sugars. These real-world data highlight the importance of light in controlling metabolism."

I think this is probably the best amateur photo of Uranus ever taken. Tom’s work is top notch.
