Many people don’t know what happened while Florence Pugh and Cillian Murphy were filming this sex scene in Oppenheimer (2023).
Pugh revealed that the IMAX camera actually broke in the middle of their scene, leaving both actors waiting on the closed set while the crew tried to fix it.
“In the middle of our sex scene, the camera broke. No one knows this, but it did.”
She recalled how awkward the timing was:
“Our camera broke when we were both naked, and it was not ideal timing.”
Instead of simply waiting around in silence, Pugh turned the unexpected interruption into a learning moment, asking the crew:
“So tell me, what’s wrong with this camera?”
The incident reportedly involved a problem with how light was entering the camera, requiring the equipment to be repaired before filming could continue.
What could have been an incredibly awkward interruption became one of Pugh’s most memorable behind-the-scenes stories from Oppenheimer, and she said the experience gave her an even greater appreciation for the highly skilled crew working on the film.
