“Dad, why is your book so thick?” “Well, it’s a long story.” A dad joke for this Father's Day. Enjoy your day, dads! Image: Poster art by Magnus Norstad. Library of Congress Artist Posters collection, Prints and Photographs Division.

So we had a very interesting geological day in the region. The Earthquake and aftershocks are due to pressure being released by the Ramapo Fault line. This fault line is active and has produced numerous earthquakes in New Jersey over the past 500 years ( that we have recorded via written accounts and now more advanced observations). We will likely have more aftershocks the next few days. This event has nothing to do with the solar eclipse or any other factor. Just plain old geology.

We WERE looking to shake things up with this one, but I guess we got a little carried away! Enjoy our latest op-ed in @amNewYork on the need to speed up the casino licensing process in NY to fill up the state coffers with $1B+ and spur thousands of new jobs.

Here's a closer look at that 6 p.m. shake. The U.S. Geological Survey preliminarily said the aftershock, which was felt in parts of NYC and NJ, measured 4 in magnitude. Read more: bit.ly/4aCWYt6

It's about to get loud. This spring will see two separate batches of periodical cicadas emerge en masse, spread across much of the eastern half of the U.S. trib.al/NkEc3fk

Excellent information from @USGS_Quakes and @nycemergencymgt Be sure to tune in. And like any emergency #BePrepared #haveanemergencyplan
According to the @USGS, aftershocks could still be felt in the next week. A 50% probability of magnitude 3+, a 15% chance of quakes of magnitude 4+, & 3% a chance exists for an earthquake of similar or larger magnitude. Prepare with these helpful tips: on.nyc.gov/earthquake
