Exit polls shifting in Israel toward Netanyahu bloc vs Eisenkot’s (52-49 Ch12| 51-51 Ch11) - Neither is at 61 threshold to form government - Arab parties coming in with historic 19 seats could be kingmakers but they’re also divided Official results could take till Thursday

Netanyahu's main focus in this election wasn't winning (he knew that's a long shot). His plan is to make it impossible for opposition parties to form a Zionist coalition without the support of Arab parties In the best case scenario, the opposition can ONLY tolerate Ra'am's Mansour Abbas, but not the Arab Joint List (the opposition has many far-right figures & anti-Arab racists). This scenario would put the opposition at 59 seats, 2 seats short of a majority. The alternative would be a "center-right" unity government that includes Netanyahu & Naftali Bennet (& possibly Gadi Eisnkot) where Ben Gvir would be kicked out of the ruling coalition. Eisenkot's second in command, Yoram Cohen, already said he thinks their party, Yashar, could sit with the Likud and Smotrich, but they prefer not to sit with Ben-Gvir or under Netanyahu as prime minister. One obstacle here is the ultra-Orthodox exemption law; they demand to be exempted from military services while opposition parties campaigned on the promise of forcing the Heredim to serve. If the opposition can't figure out a way to form a viable government, there's the scenario of going to another election round (and then another, and another and another with no clear winner). That scenario also works well for Netanyahu.

Good night for now. It will be a few days before we get the final results but this is clear: a major personal defeat for Netanyahu; a fairly underwhelming night for the Change Bloc; and an impressive showing by the Palestinian citizens of the state. Now the work begins.

I won’t go back and list them all, but I’ll start with the most recent: Palestinian scientist Omar Yaghi, who won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

I’m thrilled to share that my short book will soon be published in Hebrew by Tchelet Books, one of Israel’s leading publishing houses, and will be available digitally and in bookstores within weeks. Hamas: The Enemy of Gaza brings to Israeli readers a Palestinian perspective on the complex reality of life in Gaza under Hamas, challenging the common perception that the group enjoys broad popular support. Blending the story of Hamas’s rise to power with my own experiences and insights, the book offers a concise account of how the terror group became one of the greatest disasters to befall the Palestinian people. It examines the historical, political, regional, religious, and strategic forces that enabled Hamas’s entrenchment, while also highlighting Israeli policies that shaped its trajectory and contributed to the path leading to October 7. I will share details on how to obtain a copy as soon as they become available in Israel. I am also pleased to share that my short book will be translated and published in four additional languages: Greek, Italian, Norwegian, and French, with efforts underway to secure a German publisher. Importantly, with the help of several allies, I am also working to have the book published in Arabic. That effort has proven challenging, as many publishers deem it “too controversial” because of its unequivocal opposition to Hamas’s “resistance” narrative and my argument and declaration that the group is holding Gaza’s Palestinians hostage to its Islamist, jihadist, and ultimately nihilistic ideology and agendas.

Do you realize just how desperate things have become for us Palestinians? That our best realistic hope today is for an Israeli general to win the Israeli elections! A general who opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, supports settlement expansion, has no intention of ending the war in Gaza, and has taken part in every war against Gaza since 2008! And despite all of this, I find myself hoping he wins! Not because I believe in him, or because I expect him to ever treat us justly, but because the alternative is Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir. And because I genuinely fear that if these men remain in power for another four years, there will be nothing left of Palestine or the Palestinian people except in history books. Imagine how desperate we must have become to pin our hopes on a general who took part in the wars against us, simply because we fear the alternative even more! We do not need anyone to tell us that this general does not believe in our right to a state, or that the two sides are not so different when it comes to Palestinian rights. We know this perfectly well. We know their histories and their positions, and we do not need anyone lecturing us about them. But what exactly are we supposed to do? Reject even the less terrible option while watching what remains of our land and our lives being destroyed before our eyes? This is not a choice between good and evil. The Palestinian reality is not black and white. It is like being forced to choose between leukemia and a brain tumor. Neither is a choice anyone would willingly make, and choosing one does not mean believing it is good. It simply means fearing the other even more. We are choosing between two bitter options, one simply less bitter than the other. As the Arabic proverb goes: “What is bitter can only be made bearable by something even more bitter.” And perhaps what we are hoping for is not justice, but something less unjust than the nightmare we are living through. How painful it is to have reached a point where we no longer look to elections in the hope of seeing someone who recognizes our rights come to power, but merely someone who might allow us to hold on to what little remains of them. So I will say this directly, without making any attempt to dress up this miserable reality: Everyone who has the right to vote in the Israeli elections and believes in justice for Palestinians should use that vote to remove Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir from power. Not out of love for their opponents, nor out of any belief that those opponents will bring us justice, but simply because we need to put an end to this nightmare. Because whatever comes next, surely it cannot be worse than this. Our survival in the face of their brutality may be in your hands! #SurvivalTestimony

Trump wants your attention, cause chaos, and hurt people. He’s a menace. And here’s the psychology: the 25-30% still with him are people in pain. When he inflicts pain on someone else, they feel relief. Misery loves company. The numbers don’t lie though. He’s coming into the midterms with the lowest approval rating in modern presidential history. 70% of Americans are against the trade war with Canada. They don’t even understand why he’s doing it and it’s hammering states like Wisconsin and Michigan that send enormous amounts of goods north of the border. He’s a deeply disliked man. The base is loud, but it’s shrinking.

I had lunch today in Jerusalem with a Palestinian friend who I’ve known for more than 30 years. She can’t vote tomorrow because she is not a citizen - even though she was born in Jerusalem and has spent her whole life here - but she was so happy that I had come back to vote, and we both hoped for the best, for us and for our respective daughters. Outsiders will have opinions all across the spectrum, but the infuriating complexity and the loving intimacy of this place can’t be understood without being here for a while.
