For anyone who was so far unconvinced of her amazingness - can I point you in the direction of @mneakin ‘s newest book on the science of tobacco dependence?

Hey #Lipedema research junkies – we are trying something new – posts about all newly published research! Since Twitter doesn't always smile on automated posts, we're testing this at a separate account, @LipedemaBot. Give it, and us, a follow and let us know how it's working!

New research! #Lipedema pain is often characterized as hypersensitivity to otherwise normal stimuli. This LF-funded study found that Lipedema-related pain is not simply a response to tissue growth or swelling. Learn more: ow.ly/ymB850M2J60

“Do children get #Lipedema? Maybe. But every woman with Lipedema was once a child. When we look at her childhood photographs, we are left with the sense that we might have done something differently if we’d known what to look for.” – CSO Guy Eakin, LF’s 2022 Scientific Retreat.

Stunned & so excited to receive this @amsocmatbio Junior Investigator award. I joined #ASMB in 2019 as we started to get more into matrix bio and fibrosis and loved every interaction I’ve had w/ASMB and it’s community since, it’s a warm, fun and welcoming environment to new (1/n)
I have tried to work through so much histology this week that I cannot claim I would have even noticed this.
☀️ Eh oh Po! 📺
I found a Teletubby in a lymphangioma.

But looking forward to the learning at #AVLS 2022.
For any out that might waive off the burden of living with #lipedema: Consider this haunting image of a woman who, ca. 1988, elected to relieve that burden via a surgery that required wires to be drilled through her heels so that a wedge of her suspended leg could be removed
You wouldn't see this procedure today, but the underlying patient motivation is just as real as it ever was.
Unfortunately, for so many with lipedema, there won't be *any* treatment at all until lipedema is recognized as unique, serious, and deserving of modern treatments.
#medtwitter, if recognizing weight is part of your practice, please take a minute to learn to recognize how lipedema might intersect with your other diagnoses.

Do patients with "atypical" demographics have more severe disease for biologic reasons? Does it have to do with missed and delayed diagnoses?
Are we sure that what we've learned about the epidemiology of rheumatic diseases is true? Should we re-evaluate what we think we know?
Why do patients with "non-textbook" disease presentation have worse outcomes? Julia Simard @RheumEpi @StanfordMed kicks off the #LancetSummitRheum session on #SLE with a fascinating talk on implicit bias.
Dear Academic friends - those with amazing libraries.
If you're looking for a birthday gift for me, I could sure use some help locating copies of these papers for a review I'm working on! ([email protected]) Thank you!
