it may attempt to do so — 15M jobs are 15M sources of income for companies that fuck up the macroeconomics. but knock yourselves out

everyone is smart in the micro sense. very dumb in the macro sense. all you gonna do is fuck up your income *and* incur a populist backsliding. but everyone sees spreadsheet abstractions because they’re not deep thinkers

had a docker image tank because a dev said “but the logback dependency upgrade was minor version version”. my child, semantic versioning is not a blood oath
Exhibit 1823749 re: why software engineers don't have to worry about being replaced. I was offhandedly describing to a friend how we have systems in place to detect when things break in production. Their response was "wait, why would anything break?" Oh, my sweet summer child.

it’s an odd mix. i’m the youngest american on my team at 31. we had a sister team with a guy who was 24. but he just got laid off. so i think i am the second youngest american dev in our org team
There's gonna be an insane crises of managers and mid-level corporate staff in 5–10 years. Everyone I speak to in corporate says they're the only young person there, surrounded by people in their 40/ 50s with families. So where tf are all the young people going?

that’s actually pretty wild. i know my two coworkers are ten years older than i am. my manager might be 38-ish? another coworker is 33-34-ish? i made a joke about “old bron”, and he said “41 isn’t that old”, so i know he’s around that

Employment cost index recap: 1/ First thing - the sharp recent wage deceleration we see in the monthly jobs report is absent from the employment cost index (ECI). The wage deceleration is probably a composition artifact...

gonna be funny as hell when years down the road, someone reasonably ask why the hell we scaled an quadratic growth based algorithm. “so you invested billions? without asking of there were alternatives and invested into different paths?” “对”

ehhhhh. you think that budget line disappears because it goes to a federal government? okay…
Large businesses with high and growing health care burdens should get on board with offloading that budget line to the federal government

politically convenient to say, but the math is the math: taxes rise on everyone, the deficit grows, or both. because the next line is “well since you’re not paying for healthcare directly, you can pay it indirectly through corporate taxes”

theory: the people talking about the “divide” are numbers driven, not “data informed”. seems like they see one set of numbers without asking if they’re interpreting them correctly
Wages and salaries, adjusted for inflation, were down 0.6 percent in September from a year earlier. Lots of talk about the "divide" between sentiment and data, but it doesn't seem hard to understand why people are unhappy when their pay is declining in real terms.

i love numbers; numbers are ultimately a measurement of something tho. i think a lot of people fall into a trap when they forget this crucial fact
